This may be TMI, but I just wanted to say sorry this happened, but it may not be the last. I had my first poo-splosion a few weeks after getting a colostomy. I was using the system the hospital sent me home with (not that one, I was changing every 3 or 4 days), anyway it happened at home in the bedroom on a stained concrete floor-thank goodness, daytime. I was able to quickly get to the shower and get changed. After that, I switched to Convatec convex duraheasive which I still use 17 years later. With nary a problem until a few weeks ago. I've been going thru chemo for a new cancer, not colon. This regime gives me terrible constipation not helped by prune juice, Dulcolax nor milk of magnesia. My daughter gave me an Acia colon cleanse and that broke the dam 5 days after treatment. It was very hard formed and large and it pushed that barrier right off! Then the loose stuff followed and rolled down my leg. Thank Covid I was home again but a little farther from BR. It takes me about 10 minutes to round up and assemble stuff for a change so I packed a small towel in underwear and proceeded as necessary. Let me say, this is very damning to my confidence but I guess 2 times in 17 years isn't too bad. I've been going everywhere but overnite, without a change of system or clothing. I may be on this chemo 2 times a month for life, so gotta get this figured out. Oh well, that's my horror story.

Man. Cancer's bad enough without colostomy nastiness. My colostomy is named mrs. Wiggins after the carol Burnett character. I forgave her for that explosion. Usually she's very kind to me. And I'm very glad she does her job well. I'm going in for surgery the week of October 5th and the surgeon says he's going to reverse me. I'm nervous about that too. You just can't win. :-)

Just remember, if the surgeon says that he is going to do a reversal, this means that he will be disconnecting your Mrs.Wiggins colostomy. Is this what you had in mind?

Yes, I'm ready for that. I hope it goes well. I'm giving it 6 months and if it's misery, I'll be ready for Mrs. Wiggins II.
