Pet Scan Results

Postby vancouver eve » Mon Aug 19, 2013 9:19 pm

I had a Pet Scan last week because I still had back pain and my CEA had gone up once more. I informed the Onc. when I was informed the previous Cat Scan did not show any cancer, that I did not believe the results. The Onc. ordered a Pet Scan that showed I had a soft tissue anterior to the left illiac artery that is consistent with a metastases and may represent nodual disease. What a shock. I have chosen to have sterotactic radiation, but this time it is a little risky as the bowel is so close. I do hope this is the only problem and nothing else pops up in six months. I am scared of this recent find, but what can I do but take the treatment. The treatment would be for ten days and will start in three weeks.

Good for you for pushing for the PET scan. Hoping the radiation takes care of the little monster.

Eve,
I know this must really be a shock! You've gone so long with such good results. Although this isn't what you wanted to hear, you did the right thing by being so persistent and pushing for the PET scan. At least you caught this early and can deal with it. You're a 'pro' at the stereotactic radiation thing so feel confident that you won't be bothered by the treatments this time. Keep us informed how things go. Since your CEA is a really good indicator for you....here's hoping that the radiation treatments bring that CEA down once more and eradicate that nasty little nodule.
Take care.

Sorry you are facing a new challenge Eve, but very good for you that you pushed the issue !
Was it with "our" Onc ?
I know sometimes we have to push, but he will give in eventually.

Sending best wishes for getting things sorted out and taken care of !

Not happy news, but sounds like you are handling it well and gearing up for treatment. So glad you pushed for the scan. A reminder to all of us that if we feel something isn't right, to push for what we feel we need, even if the doctors don't agree. It's our peace of mind we are dealing with. It is our bodies. Hope this is just a bump in the road and the treatment kills those cancer cells.

As Gaelen used to remind us, this is a marathon, not a sprint. My money's on you Eve. I'm so sorry to hear this news, but take a deep breath, stay calm and carry on. You can do this.

Belle, I am getting the stero rad. in a few weeks. I had the mould made today. The thing that worries me is that one of the other nodes could be involved, but not showing yet. I am wondering whether I should take more chemo. What a thought.

Hi Eve - It has been about 3 weeks since you posted this, and I was wondering whether you have started your ten-day treatment yet...

Thanks for all the support. I have now finished my sterotactic radiation treatments. I will be scanned at the end of October. The treatment went well. I only required 5 treatments as the Rad. Onc. discovered that there was more room than he initially thought. I therefore had 5 intensive treatments instead of 10.
