I'm sorry to hear. Did you ask your oncologist about a surgical consult? Or perhaps more chemo? Thus sucks.

Cb75,

Yes, I asked, and she said you are thinking ahead of time. She said they are not sure what they are. once it is confirmed, they will consult with a thoracic surgeon. She said there is a very good surgeon in Kitchener. once they do the CT scan after 2 months. we will see what to do. As it looks like she was not very happy when i mentioned princess Margret. She said they all follow the same procedure!!!

Really surprised at your onc's. position on Princess Margaret ..... my onc. referred me down there for genetic testing clinical trial, I get the feeling from him that this will be the go to place for a clinical trial. I got the results finally from the genetic testing, onc. from Princess Marg. phoned me, K-Ras mutant but my onc. had already tested me for that so it basically revealed nothing new. But, the onc. there said once my oncologist is out of drugs he will sit down and go over other options in clinical trials but to wait because they are changing all the time. I'm on regorafinib at this time. Waiting is frustrating, hopefully this is just some kind of inflammation what will resolve.

I am a patient at Pmh. I think the standard protocol would be followed everywhere in Ontario. It seems like everyone is treated about the same everywhere with respect to chemo and imaging. However, the difference may be when problems arise. Pmh has clinics for everything which are made up if a group of specialists who are available for other options, referrals and clinical trials. It's not necssarily better or worse. I asked to be treated at Pmh rather than where I was diagnosed. As a result there was some delay in getting the surgical referral to my liver surgeon. It took almost six weeks to get an appointment! Where as within pmh they have a two week guideline for referrals. I asked for a thoracic surgeon consult yesterday. I have an appointment on Monday. I'm not sure if I would have gotten it do quickly if I were not a current patient.

Why not get a second opinion from another doctor and/or hospital. You have nothing to lose and your current doctor shouldn't be offended. It's your wife's health and piece of mind.

smokeyjoe! yes, I was of the impression that she preferred St mary's in Kitchener to PM in Toronto. And yes, That would be a miracle if it comes something non cancerous.

Cb75,

Yes, I will surely take a 2nd opinion and i would push to be transferred to PMH. unfortunately my wife's father is also dealing with final stage lung cancer and she would like to see him before the CT Scan. She would be coming back around end of October. It is very hard for her as she does not work and stay home. we have no kids and that makes it harder for her to kill her time. Beside that we have also no family here in Canada...
we will wait for the CT scan and after that we would get referral to PMH.
Never thought life could be that hard...

Hi VWH - Just a note about your wife's return trip in October. She should make sure that she doesn't catch a cold on the long return trip (by getting chilled in the aircraft or in the transit lounge). The last thing she wants to have is another chest cold just before her repeat scan in November. It seems to me that the original scan may have given a false positive due to you wife's bad chest cold just before that scan. Now she has to make sure she avoids the same thing happening this next time around.

Also, she should try to eliminate any other activities in that time frame that might trigger a false positive lung "thingy". For example, I think she should probably try to avoid second-hand smoke and being present in smoke-filled rooms, because this might also cause some inflammation in the lung.

OSM! you are so caring. Thanks for thinking about us. I will definitely tell her about that. Day before Yesterday, she got a very good news about her father. my FIL has his scans. He was diagnosed with final stage cancer.he stopped chemo due to his age (75). he is only using some TCM , and the results were amazing. his one tumor disappeared, and has 60% reduction in large tumor in his lungs... I love hearing anyone winning against this monster
