A few little things about my Mom off the top of my head while missing her today.

My Mom "Tootsie"

My Mom was full of life. She was fun, great sense of humor and a firecracker personality. I would warn people who were meeting my Mom for the first time that she was different about life, lol.

She never missed church, loved her church and church family. She was dedicated to feeding anyone who was hungry and was in charge of the church food pantry. Her compassionate side was so tender and thoughtful as she would sit with people and listen to their stories.

She had a sixth sense with knowing BS coming from you and she would expose you where you stand. It was amazing and wish I had that ability. If it isn't right, it isn't right.
She was very protective of her family. She would turn into a junk yard dog if anyone messed with her children, brothers, sisters or parents. She was our protector, sheltered us and showed us love every day.

Funny story: Tornado weather like most things didn’t bother her. She would just say “If it’s my time to go it’s my time no matter whats going on.” I told her once during a very bad tornado night of one after another coming right at us “Look woman, you better get over here because if one of the tornadoes does get your house, EMT’s will find you in your moo-moo 5 miles one direction and your wig 5 miles the other way and you don’t want to be found like that. Your picture’s doomed to make front cover of the paper.” Well, she was here in about 3 minutes, lol. So ya, she visualized that scenario.

Another story: We were going to her Aunt Magdeline's funeral in KY. Everything going good until we needed to stop at a restroom. We saw the exit sign and thought we were on the right exit road. We were not. Suddenly out of nowhere we had men in combat gear surrounding us with guns on us. Whew...We asked where we were (of course). They said "Fort Knox." My mom cracked up and couldn't stop. I told them our destination and they let us turn around. Crazy!

Christmas was always a great time. She would do it up! Mom would find some of the most unusual nick nacs, wrapping paper, ect just to make us laugh and question her thinking, haha. She always made homemade banana pudding on Christmas day. And don’t be late or she’d give you the sideways squint. No excuses.

If she thought we were messing up in some way she would say “Your character is the most important thing you will leave behind when its your time.” That was no fun to think about!

She believed in a lot of old wives tales, mainly kitchen witch stuff. EX: hanging a horse shoe over the entrance door will protect evil from entering. Garlic on the window sill over the sink repells evil from coming in because it is attracted to running water. Gosh, there are so many others her mother passed to her and she in turn passed to us kids. She grew up in the hollers of Appalachia and the history there is wild crazy such as the superstitions.
She was the most colorful woman with passion for life and lived it! I miss my Mom terribly.
The little things Mom did become the most precious memories I will carry to keep her memory alive.

Beach, that was so beautiful—your words painted such a striking portrait of your Mom. What an amazing woman she must have been, what a great personality, and what a blessing to be her daughter. May her memory be eternal. Requiescat in pace.
