Fuda Cancer Hospital vs Modern Cancer Hospital

Postby Skyline2020 » Fri Apr 25, 2025 2:12 am

Hi everyone,
I hope this message finds you all well. I'm reaching out regarding my husband's situation, hoping to gather some insights from this supportive community.
My husband is currently battling stage 4 rectal cancer with metastases to his lymph nodes, liver, and lungs. He was initially diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer (with one lymph node involvement), but unfortunately, his condition progressed despite undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
We've been exploring treatment options and have received proposals from both Fuda Cancer Hospital and Modern Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, China.
Both facilities have recommended similar interventional approaches:

Local chemotherapy
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE)
Cryoablation

However, when seeking a second opinion from an oncologist in Singapore, we were advised that these interventional treatments may not be appropriate for his stage 4 cancer.
I'm wondering if anyone here has personal experience with either of these hospitals in Guangzhou or knows someone who has received treatment there, particularly for advanced colorectal cancer.

Thank you in advance for any guidance or experiences you can share.

In 2010 a medical tourism fad for "top mainland China hospitals" swept parts of SE Asia, including our neighborhood, particularly Fuda. We decided to stay home, avoid the travel, extra costs (for our locale), and language issues, and try to identify the best local talents in country. I never saw or heard anything that particularly impressed me and there were rumblings of some dissatisfaction, abrupt end of care with unsuccessful cases, and oversold services.

The Mainland has a reputation for some questionable transplant practices, etc as well as scams, false advertising/news, and lack of quality in many other fields.
Given the state of China and the world right now, I would not go unless I personally knew someone who could vouch for a particular hospital and team on a hard to treat situation at home, in rational desperation.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements
