To bidet or not to bidet. That is the question, lol.

Postby JP66 » Sun Feb 02, 2025 10:22 am

I came on the forum this morning to search for handheld bidet recommendations because my butt gets painfully sore at night and my handheld bidets weren't getting me totally clean so I started using my shower wand instead and that worked great BUT when I came on here and searched this is what I found:

Anal incontinence due to bidet use

Imagine my disappointment! However it does make sense to me as flushing my butt with water definitely stimulates further leakage.

My reason for posting then is to ask if there are folks here who DO use a bidet, but have NOT experienced anal incontinence. Don't know if it will change my mind one way or another, but I'm just curious to hear what others have to say.

I recall some discussions about doing a Google search for Sitz Bath many years ago.

As with everything YMMV, ... BUTT some folks had good success.

I had a separate bidet unit during my post ops which was great.
Upon moving I looked at the bio-bidet type seats to modify an existing toilet ... BUTT ...
found I was doing ok without one, so not using anything specific now.

The intensity of the hand held water jet stream may be the issue ????

As for actual incontinence ... No I did not have issues while using a sit down bidet.

Cheers and best wishes

We recently got the kind that installs under the toilet seat because my husband couldn’t properly wipe after surgery. If the pressure is the issue it does have an adjustable knob, though we only use it on the lowest setting as any higher and the pressure is intense! We haven’t noticed any issues, but we’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks.

I *LOVE* mine and am not even remotely concerned after reading this. I've had mine at least six years.

I think the key word is "excessive".

A quick spritz after I do my business isn't that.

It's so much cleaner / hygenic and it's a godsend during colonoscopy prep.

If you smeared mud on your skin and had the option to keep rubbing it with dry paper or washing it off real quick and then drying it with paper which would you choose?
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?
