Having trouble keeping my bag from leaking

Postby sigourneyanderson » Tue Sep 17, 2024 2:40 am

I am having trouble keeping my bag from leaking. I used hollioster adhesive spray and it made all the difference.
But now they have discontinued the product. I need recommendations of what brand of adhesive I should use. If anyone else uses an adhesive to keep the bag on please let me know what kind you use that works. Thank you.

Sorry, I don’t use adhesive spray, though I’ve had great success with very careful use of barrier rings and very careful wafer application. You may well have done all that, of course!

Since this is a cancer forum, you may not get a ton of response to this kind of request here (though I hope you get something more helpful than mine!) You might well do better at an ostomy forum such as the one below. Good luck from a fellow ostomate!

I agree, other OSTOMY specific sites have great info ... BUTT

Have you talked to your own ostomy nurse ???

Best info I had years ago was to be in the care of first class ostomy nurses post-op.

FYI I used Hollister / wafer / supplies as determined by the nurses I dealt with ...
or maybe ...
THEY had to deal with me

Best wishes and Cheers

Warning: Be sure to check with your ostomy nurse before trying any new adhesive !!

I was going through the exact same situation. Unfortunately my Ostomy nurse is quite inexperienced and was zero help. The strange part was I had no problem with leaks for the first 3 months and only recently started having trouble.

Obviously each situation is different. For me I use Coloplast Solo Mio Flex and the problems started when I switched to a one piece. I was having issues with Peristomal Skin Irritation and was using the "caking method". What I found stopped the leaks was when I switched to a Protective Seal from Coloplast that I would seriously push down on when I placed it on and then going back to a 2 piece where I cut the barrier slightly wider than my Stoma and again seriously pushed on the edges when applying and going from 3 layers of powder and barrier to one layer. I also started using a light application of Cavalon adhesive spray.

Bottom line what worked for me: Coloplast Protective Seal with one layer of powder underneath combined with a wider opening on the barrier ring and Cavalan spray.

Don't know if you're onto this or not already but this guys videos are amazing: Vegan Ostomy
