Insurance coverage for Stage IV

Postby cindyz » Thu Aug 01, 2024 4:57 pm

Hi everyone,
A long time ago, my husband Stephen was dx with stage IV and he died in less than a year after the dx (May 2010). I was on this board pretty frequently, and it literally saved my life as a caregiver.
Fast-forward to today, when I sit in a hotel room overlooking campus. I have returned to get my MFA in Narrative Nonfiction, and to finally realize my goal of publishing what I learned in those fast 11 months with Stephen.
The problem is, I can't remember a lot of details, and I want to be able to confirm or validate them with you guys. I posted a lot here, like I said, and I printed that out years ago into a stack about three inches thick....but not every question I have now is something I asked then (and I asked a TON of questions).

Right now, I'm wondering about insurance coverage. I remember- or think I do- that Stephen had to go through the "typical" protocol of chemotherapy *in order*...even though he didn't respond to any of them in the end. I remember being really discouraged because we could plainly see that the current chemo regimine wasn't working, but were told that if we skipped ahead too fast, insurance may not cover. Is this true or just a figment of my imagination?

Hi cindyz welcome back !

The forum has a decent search function so you may want to try sorting through some of your own posts
and also defined search terms for the whole forum, for follow up.

I know insurances are protean and variable depending upon coverage and carriers, BUTT...
( you knew there had to be at least one !!! ) I don't have specific personal info for you.

I am sure others may jump in to help out
Cheers and Harmony

Cindyz -

You are to be admired for your goal to publish your Stage-IV memories of 15 years ago. When you finally get your memoirs published you can then join the ranks of others who have also written about their experiences with the Stage-IV CRC journey.

Good luck on achieving your goal !!

Thank you for those links...I have been wondering about my focus for this book, and there's been hundreds of thousands written about cancer/ being dx with stage IV/ caregivers/ etc. Do you know if there is a thread or post here that gives a list of books published by Colon Club members?

I have a few questions regarding the focus of your proposed book.:

1. Is your book project designed to be an example of "narrative nonfiction" based on your 11-month experience with Stage IV CRC? If so, what specific type of "narrative nonfiction" approach do you have in mind? See some examples here:

http://www.masterclass.com/articles/und ... nonfiction

2. Who would be the target audience for your book, and for what reasons? In other words, in what ways will readers most benefit from reading your book?

So, I think that once you have clarified your focus it will be much easier to come up with an outline for the book.

Your MFA in Narrative Nonfiction

Postby Green Tea » Sun Sep 08, 2024 6:16 am

In August 2024, cindyz wrote:... Fast-forward to today, when I sit in a hotel room overlooking campus. I have returned to get my MFA in Narrative Nonfiction and to finally realize my goal of publishing what I learned in those fast 11 months with Stephen.

I have a few more questions now:

- Are you still on campus working on your MFA, or have you gone back home by now?

- When do you expect to complete the requirements for the MFA degree?

- And how did you manage to cope with the very bad weather there when the tail of Hurricane Debby passed through the campus last summer?
