Paranoid

Postby Pagola44 » Sun Nov 12, 2023 7:51 am

Sorry this may sound a bit stupid but I've been feeling paranoid lately about folfox not working
I also get paranoid and worried that if i eat something or drink something it may reduce the effectiveness of folfox? For example I was going to drink an energy drink the other day (I know they aren't healthy but I like the taste) then i thought what If the ingredients reduce the effect of folfox?
I also get paranoid that its not even working and won't work?

How do you guys deal with thoughts like this?

Dude, PMA! Positive Mental Attitude! Like I told the doc when he gave me my diagnosis, I told him, "this is the best time in human history to get a cancer diagnosis". We now have internet, easy way to discuss cures and treatments online, new treatments - new medical reports come out regularly on cancer therapies - 100 years ago, you were a dead man walking. Now you have PET scans, folfox and IP-6 and the list goes on.

If it helps, realistically there’s virtually no food or drink that you can eat that will materially impact the effectiveness of FOLFOX. Biochemically, food is like an ant on the road, and FOLFOX is like a Mack truck barrelling down the highway toward the ant. (Note supplements and meds are different here, I’m talking about food and drink). Given it’s a short period of time, I would eat whatever gets you through this treatment.

my oncologist said taking a multi vitamin would be fine which surprised me

Most multivitamins contain a significant whack of folic acid (vitamin B9), so I wouldn’t be combining it with FOLFOX.

My mind was all over the place when I was where you're at. Just try to focus on getting through it.

One thing to watch out for might be protein supplements. I was really into lifting for a few years before I got diagnosed and went back to drinking two protein shakes a day after surgery when I started going back to the gym (during chemo). They didn't like something about my bloodwork numbers but this was SO long ago I don't remember what. Iron maybe? I really lowered the amount I consumed and with the next bloodwork they were happy with my numbers again.
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 12 years NED). Is this real life?
