Failed prep (hubby) could this be sign of CRC?

Postby dianetavegia » Mon Apr 24, 2023 9:30 am

Hubby did his prep with Miralax and laxative pills which seemed to go fine. However, Dr. couldn't do anything at his colonoscopy today, saying 98% of his colon was not cleared.

Jim is terrified that he has CRC. He's had problems with constipation since his extensive prostate cancer surgery 2 1/2 years ago.

Doctor had his RN call around trying to find an opening with ANY group, but no luck. He did say next prep will be an RX and a 2 day prep and until then, take a capful of Miralax daily.

Anyone have this happen? My original dx was due to impaction behind my tumor.

I kinda do two days of prep.

Years ago, I did a big Saturday night dinner, had to prep the next, it was not pleasant.

Now, two days prior to scope, I eat soft, easy process food. eggs, mash potato, jello, etc. It sure helps on prep day.

I will be scoped on a Monday for my next scope. My friends already know I will not partake on our Saturday night dinners.

Hope this helps & good luck,

Just wondering if after his prep, was he excreting clear waste, yellow or light brown in colour and clear? Or was he excreting watery brown stools that were not clear?

Did the doctor know what was causing the blockage? What could he see with the scope? You would think that if a tumor was blocking his bowel, then the doctor would have seen it. It could be that he is severely constipated.

Poor Jim, prepping is awful. Wishing him the best.

Hi Diane -

I'm very sorry to hear about Jim's problems, but they're probably only temporary. Just hope for the best, and I'm sure that everything will work out for the best ( for those who love the Lord and who are called according to His purpose... Romans 8:28) ...

I really miss your old "Just a Little Talk" blog posts, but I can fully understand why you might want to move on to other things and try to put CRC in the rear-view mirror.

Also, it was very nice to see replies to your post from old-timers like Lee and michelle_c, whom I still think about quite a lot from time to time.

Take care... and onward on the journey ...

I'm sorry that he has to do prep again. *hugs* I hope the two day prep works well and his doctor will be able to complete the colonoscopy. I hope he'll get good results. That would be really frustrating for him.

The two day prep worked and they only found a pea sized polyp that doc feels 100% positive is benign.

At our age, he'll do a FOB smear in 5 years and no more colonoscopies unless the smear shows blood. Jim will be 76 in August.

Looking back my first symptom was a failed prep. Now I have to approach it seriously with very light diet 48 hours before prep day. It could just as easily be due to chronic constipation so I would have him approach it as suggested with light meals etc. I also take one light laxative the day before prep starts. It NO fun but it is necessary. Good luck.
