Hello pantufla -

Has your husband checked out all of the possible causes of rectal bleeding? Maybe it's one of the benign causes.

I think that most of these possibilities can be checked out with a simple in-office sigmoidoscopy procedure. It's worth a try...

Definitely get a proper exam and follow up for this. I am 15 years out from original Dx and have had no rectal bleeding issues, even with colonoscopies and biopsies.

I have rectal bleeding occasionally but am thoroughly checked out with colonoscopies yearly and it seems to always be hemorroids, often made worse after more vigorous, lengthy walks.
Always good to get it checked out!

Thanks everyone. He continues to say he will get it checked out. I'm sure he will. Last time it took 4 months before he would go to the doc.

Hi Pantufla, any news?
Does your husband have a history of hemorrhoids?
Looking at your signature, I presume those lung opacities turned out to be nothing, right?
Good luck, happy new year.

Hi Iwillfight. Thanks for asking. No news. Last time (2015) the doctor said he had no hemorrhoids. He didn't have any on followup, but he hasn't followed up for his 3-year check so who knows. The lung opacities were never followed up on either. The oncologist just said they were nothing. That has always bothered me. The mesenteric lymph nodes bother me too.

DH doesn't tell me what is going on. I haven't observed anything symptomatic in several days. He had some concerning bathroom runs last weekend and some very foul-smelling gas. Other than that and a little weight loss (maybe 10 pounds), there's nothing new.

I appreciate your asking.

I recently had bleeding and was freaked out by it. In a recent sigmoidoscopy, it was determined to be telangiectasia, damage from radiation.
Getting a sigmoidoscopy is very straightforward, as Jacques mentioned, worth a try!
52M DX: RC lower rectum, guessing now 2cm from AV 4/27/2021
T3N0M0 adenocarcinoma with signet ring cell features
Tumor size 30mm
Tumor grade: G3
Baseline CEA 1.0
MSI status: MSS pMMR
Started Folfox 5/12/2021
Switched to FOLFIRINOX from session 2. 8 rounds total.
CT+MRI tumor contained shrunk 80%, no spread to other organs.
CRT started xeloda + 28 days Radiation 9/27-11/04
NED as of 4/06 CT/MRI/sigmoidoscopy
On W&W 04/06/2022
