Bidet recommendation?

Postby claudine » Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:17 pm

Getting ready for DH's ileostomy reversal on the 9th. The surgeon highly recommends a bidet, and a quick search on this forum confirms it. The price range is huge though. Any specific brand/style recommendation? I'm thinking an attachment that allows for heated water and is self-cleaning.
Thanks!

Meaning that a more expensive one, with better control of the flow, is definitely the way to go! Something gentle...

!!! I'm not sure what to think now? Several people on this forum swore by the bidet... Maybe we should hold off and see how bad things are for DH?

Too late anyway - DH ordered one, a very fancy (and expensive) one, but that means adjustable water pressure, warm air dryer, warm water, adjustable nozzle position, etc... I guess I'll report on his experience in a few weeks!

Claudine, how’s your husband? It’s been about 2 days since reversal, so I was wondering…I may be too late for the bidet discussion, but you might also consider a portable bidet, like those cheap plastic squish bottles you get for $10 on Amazon on days when he’s out and about. In fact, I bought a fancy bidet from Costco but while I waited for my non-handy husband to install, I realized that the squish bottle worked well, and returned the bidet.

Thanks Sunny, I will mention the squirt bottle! Surgery was pushed to Friday because the surgical team wasn’t working Monday (Labor Day!). So DH still has a couple of days... I think he’ll install the bidet (unlike your husband, he’s very handy, ha!), if he ends up not needing it much we will donate it (there’s a place in town that takes lightly used medical equipment).

Oh, then get the squirt bottle! It comes so handy in the hospital…you def don’t want to use the very rough toilet paper from the hospital when things start moving. I also bought adult diapers for peace of mind, though, thankfully, I didn’t need it (but again, it made me sleep better knowing I had protection. Will be thinking of you and your hubby tomo. :)

Well, here we are, 3 days post ileostomy reversal surgery. That part went very well, and DH was released from the hospital yesterday morning; his ostomy wound is healing well. His transit is working too, so far, no ileus like he had back in April. Unfortunately (but that was expected), it's working "too well" at the moment and he's basically living on the commode :( Good thing we got a fancy bidet (BioBidet BB2000), we installed it yesterday and it helps a great deal as he was already "raw" after 24 hours.
The doc doesn't want him to take anything like Imodium or Metamucil for a couple of weeks, to give his system a chance to work on its own. Good thing he can work remotely! I really hope things improve a little soon, because he's pretty miserable at the moment

That's good to know, pfccr, thank you. Right now the goal is actually to slow down the train... Or at least make it a few trains a day, as opposed to non-stop traffic
I messaged DH and he said things are better this morning than they were during the night, so hopefully it'll continue in that direction...

I hope your hubby is getting better….and it will! Every day should be better than the last, and it seems your hubby is a trooper. Helps that you are always so supportive. On another note, does he have those diaper rash ointments? It might alleviate the rawness.

Yes! I bought calmoseptine (after seeing it recommended on this forum). And he did have a better night and was feeling better this morning, too. Thanks for your support Sunnycd :D

Calmoseptine is great stuff. You probably know the key is to put it on *before* going to the bathroom, as it’s a barrier cream. You can reapply afterward too (I have these little latex fingertip gloves that are really handy for this).

I am so glad that reversal went well. I don’t have any tips to give you but a lot of best wishes and my sincere prayers for your husband well being.

Also please take care of yourself as well as this puts a lot of stress on spouse. I know my journey so far has been more tough on my husband than on me.
