CT Scan post liver resection

Postby L0729 » Wed Aug 31, 2022 1:35 pm

Hi, I had a CT scan today and just received the results. It seems inconclusive in regards to the two mets that I had, back on June 6, one met was resected, and the smaller one was ablated. This is what the radiologist reported:

Hepatic ablation cavities have increased in size, status post treatment. For example, a 2.6 cm lesion in segment 7 was 1.1 cm (image 19, series 1) and a 2.0 cm adjacent lesion just anteriorly was 0.9 cm (image 17
Increased in size hepatic ablation cavities with residual disease difficult to exclude on CT.
I probably should have waited to look at this report as it's just confusing, not sure what a ablation cavity is?, and I guess it's not good if it's getting bigger?
I won't meet with my oncologist until next week - should I request an MRI or PET scan?
Just wondered if anyone on this forum had any insight into this.
thank you,.....

My liver guy prefers MRI's once liver directed therapies have been used. I had a Ct come back saying I had 6 new tumors. He said the reading was incorrect and ordered an MRI which determined the spots to be scarring and accumulation of blood products. I'd talk to them about the value of other imaging techniques aside from Ct.

Thanks Nor Cal, I wasn't sure if an MRI would clarify or if I should push for PET Scan, if my insurance would even cover. I have to go for an MRI soon to show what the chemo radiation did to the rectal tumor, I will push for MRI liver imaging as well if they don't suggest it themselves.
Appreciate your advice.......
