Thanks for the link .

This plays on my mind a lot , particularly for my children . Now they can decide what to eat for themselves and my ability to influence as a mother lessens, it creeps in more and more .

However saying that they are on the whole good with exercise , diet and very low alcohol . Think I will send them the link just to remind them . They claim I have a list of everything that could potentially go wrong that they should guard against before they step through the front door anyway .May as well add to it !

Yes, I am a bit concerned for my daughter who has digestive problems (IBS?). Given her dad's issues with Crohn's and cancer, she should keep a close eye on things...

If your daughter will be continuing her studies after graduation, I would suggest that she find a highly-qualified gastroenterologist for her digestive problems instead of getting advice from the Student Health Service. This issue needs serious attention, more than just a casual, off-the-cuff, IBS diagnosis. The problem could be anything other than IBS, like ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, ischemic colitis, diverticulosis, polyps, etc.

If digestive problems continue or get worse, she should press for a colonoscopy, which would shed more light on what the real problem is.

I totally agree with you, Peregrine. She's moving to San Francisco after graduation, I will suggest she finds a good GE doc there and gets a better diagnosis for her problems.

It's always incredibly frustrating for me to read statistics like that. I have no family history, no Lynch, had given up red meat years before my diagnosis, never drank, never have been overweight, and was hitting the gym 4 times a week when I was diagnosed.

Why Is Cancer on the Rise in People Under 50?
https://www.uhhospitals.org/blog/articles/2022/10/why-is-cancer-on-the-rise-in-people-under-50

"One reason for the rise in cancer diagnoses in younger people is better cancer screening and detection practices. However, researchers say certain risk factors are also increasing. These include being overweight or obese, excessive alcohol use, changes in our digestive tract, and not sleeping well."
