Cryoablation for PMs?

Postby roadrunner » Thu Dec 09, 2021 4:22 pm

Ok, now that I’m home from my VATS surgery on 1/2 small nodules, I’m trying to educate myself on options for the second one. (The one we took out was 6.8mm and its pathology is pending. It had a relatively steady, if slow, growth rate over the last 2 years. The point of wedging it out now was to get a profile, really). The other, more centrally located, one is 6.3mm but arguably “stable,” as it’s been hovering in that neighborhood at least since March. My current plan is to get SABR on it or watch it, and my radiation oncologist (whom I love) has so far said he can do it, but it’s pretty close to hilar structures and my reading has indicated that I should at least learn about cryoablation (seems to have the lowest toxicity in such situations). All of this will depend on the pathology of the removed lesion, of course, but if it’s a met (likely) and doesn’t have a profile amenable to systemic treatment, I’m going to want the other one out or zapped.

So do you guys know who the best IRs who do cryoablation are? I’m in PA, so anywhere from East Coast to Midwest would be ideal. Thanks!

roadrunner-

Would you be able to clarify what you mean by "IR"?

Thank you.

Sorry, interventional radiologists.

Thank you for the clarification. I had thought that cryoablation procedures would be done by liver surgeons.
