Bugger - recurrence

Postby Rock_Robster » Mon Nov 08, 2021 6:51 pm

Ugh. 2 year surveillance scan wasn’t the news I was hoping for. Looks like a 20x30mm recurrence in the liver, and 4 “very small” (<2mm) lung things, indeterminate origin. Getting more imaging done now to check if the liver is operable (oncologist was initially optimistic however). Lungs are too small to do anything so we’ll check again in a couple of months (hopefully just something random). If the lungs are mets and nothing new pops up, then should be good targets for SABR.

Onc is still positive about all being treatable, but again the uncertainty kicks off again. Sigh. Always knew this was possible, but sucks to hear. Thanks for listening as always guys.

Rock - Sorry to hear this man. I am glad you got a much needed break from it all, but hate to hear you have to jump back into the fray of things. Hopefully things go smoothly and something they can take care of without all the chemo/surgery stuff. I am hoping its not much a little radiation can take care of. Keep us posted my friend!!

Hope it’s operable rob. I’ve been following your journey, you have the knowledge to push your case forward. Sabr is the way to go for lung Mets, I pushed for mine to be cut out but they could only find one and they went thoracotomy rather than vats. I have an appointment with a radiation oncologist for sabr, hope it’s an option for you.

I have followed your story as well, and have often been cheered and inspired by your perspective and strength. This was very disappointing to see. I hope you overcome it, as you have done with previous challenges. It sounds like you’re got good footing to do so. Good luck!

Sorry you have a bit more to contend with! A few more steps back to NED ! But you will get this back in control !
However I wish you did not have to !

My mum had a few bumps to navigate to but good scanning and quick intervention turned out to be a good response ! My mum had three lung nodules ! Only one turned out to be cancer ! They watched them for two years until they were big enough to remove !
After the second liver resection and lung resection there was no further issues !
Now she is part of long term survival research to see if her original tumour has a protein that identifies the cancer as a virus /infection and her immune system responds ( or something like that!) .
Hold onto that and hopefully your team will get a good plan pulled together !
Take care ,

When my husband was first diagnosed and we didn't know anything about this damn disease, we were glad that he didn't have any liver mets, only the one in his L4. Now I wish it had been a liver met instead - since those are resectable. There are several here who've had liver recurrences, and are now cured (look at Stu's mom!). Hopefully just a bump in the course of being completely cured for you as well!

Rob,

Wow, I am really sorry to hear this news. I, too, have been following your journey here on this forum. You are remarkably strong and have an incredibly positive attitude. I hope that radiation will be an option and I hope you will not need more chemo.

Hugs!

Goodness goodness Rock_Robster, what a gut punch. From what you have said it is great you would be in position to qualify for curative treatment.
I wish you the very best and will wait for updates on how its going. Keep the great attitude always, it helps more than you think. One of my surgeons told me "Strong body, strong mind is what helps the most."

Thanks guys for the all the wise words and support! PET was today (I forgot how slow they are…), then liver surgical consult Tuesday. All fingers crossed for some good news.

Plan is to leave the lungs for 2-3 months and see what they do (if anything), before planning any intervention.
