Post Treatment Monitering

Postby CancerBum21 » Fri Oct 15, 2021 3:14 pm

Hey yall! So I’ve finished treatment - FOLFOX x6 and xelota & radation for rectal cancer. Yay. But now I’m wondering what I should track now that I’m finished. I’m guessing I’m now at higher risk for some stuff now.

My fertility doctor had mentioned that I should track testosterone annually as I could be at risk for low t maybe in 5 years.

I’m guessing my oncologist will want to track CEA (which never changed during treatment) and the other battery of blood tests that we did during chemo we also spoke about ctDNA.

Anything else? Like bone health related or vitamins or minerals?

Please note that chemotherapy can have both short-term effects, and long-term side effects that need to be monitored over the long term, and that every patient is different.

Thanks! I just finished my first scans post surgery/chemo/radation treatment. They were clear but it looks like I developed diverticulitis. I haven’t really noticed any huge change other than I have to poop way more often and with grater urgency. So far it has been getting better. Radation was especially tough. It’s been 9 weeks now since I finished and I’m feeling way better.

I’ll have to ask about bone density. I have an appointment with my radation oncologist tomorrow.

I still have neuropathy in my hands and feet but it’s not too bad. One of my doctor friends told me nerves grow a centimeter a year so at some point that should go away. I have a hypothyroid condition as well and when that medication gets messed up the neuropathy really goes crazy.

I just finished open enrollment too for my insurance. I’m just guessing I’m going to max out my health plan again next year. I’m assuming the watch and wait protocol is not considered preventative care.
