Ostomy output hydration and kidney damage???

Postby WriterGirl1969 » Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:13 pm

Hoping the knowledgeable folks here can help me find some info for a friend. They had a recurrence with mets that led to a liver resection, colon resection, complete hysterectomy and gallbladder removal, all in the same session - along with hernia repair and ileostomy. They ended up having to have a second surgery to revise the ileostomy, and were working to balance output and keep them hydrated.

Now, lab results show possible kidney and liver issue. Uncertainty of what that means is causing them a lot of anxiety and fear of permanent kidney damage.

Anyone experience anything similar or know of a thread discussing ostomy output and kidney damage? I searched, but didn't find anything. Thank you in advance for any info.

Thank you! Super helpful info. I've passed on your notes about blockage and ways to hydrate to my friend. She's hesitant to try out a support group, but I'm hopeful when she sees how much amazing info can be found here she might give it a try of her own. I'm sure she could use the support.

Thanks again. Hugs!

Given that history of extensive pelvic surgery, have they checked for ureteral strictures due to scar adhesions? (That wouldn't usually account for liver problems, however.)

Not sure, but I'll raise that question if they're still having trouble. I haven't heard back from them in a few days, so they may be back in hospital for treatment. Hopefully I can find out something soon. Thank you so much for the response and suggestion. It's appreciated.
