Thoracotomy

Postby Markdale » Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:37 pm

Hi, just an update on my journey.

I had a thoracotomy on my right lung on 1/9/21Wednesday. I was hoping for just a vats but they said they needed to go thoracotomy because the Mets were to small and they needed to feel for it. They gave me a paravertebre block and an oxycodeine pca. After the surgery I was not in much pain but then the block fell out of place probably due to me moving around to much. After that the pain was horrible the oxycodeine didn’t help much, it only got better once they took the drain tube out. I was home by Friday evening after the drain tubes were out and they x-rayed to make sure I didn’t have a collapsed lung. At the moment I just get a little short of breath and there is still pain on movement but Panadol and anti inflammatory have controlled it.

Hi ,
You sound as though you are recovering really well considering it was not Vats ! Sorry you had quite a bit of pain to endure but all in all it sounds as though you are making a remarkable recovery !
My mum had Vats , long term a great recovery and her lung function has remained good five years later . Hope it works out that way for you too !
No place like home !
Enjoy being cancer free and keep up your good recovery !
