Well here we go again it's back...

Postby jumpman50512 » Thu Jun 24, 2021 5:48 pm

Hello everyone

Well just got my pet scan results and it's back in my rectum. Which really really really sucks so bad. 3 years free of treatment and it came back. My doctor is talking to my surgeon who removed my colon tumor and they will more than likely do a colonoscopy with a ultra sound there. But I just have one question anybody here have a re occurence in the rectum and has had it removed along with chemo and has been cancer free? just wondering I am unsure if i have the guts to be on chemo for life.....

Can’t answer your question but certainly witnessed my mum hit a few bumps in the road and found a way through ! We are not big on chemo for life over here . She has actually only ever had 12 cycles in total !
Hope your team gets a good plan for you !

So sorry to read this. Like Stu posted, hopefully just a bump in the road! Keep us posted...
This makes me glad my husband’s onc finally requested a PET. Just like you, he’s gotten a series of clear scans, but his CEA is so high. With cancer, there’s no burying one’s head in the sand. Knowledge is power...

Sorry jumpman - that sucks! I’m by no means an expert but I do know of several people who successfully had local rectal recurrence treated (usually surgically). The main thing is to find a surgeon who specialises in recurrent rectal/pelvic cancer and ‘salvage’ therapy (terrible name), as the surgery is a lot less standardised than a typical ULAR, and it can sometimes require some more creative techniques to make sure they get a margin. You may also want to discuss complementary options with a radiation oncologist But it’s definitely doable depending on how it all presents. Best of luck.
