Swinging Chicken

Postby DBF » Thu May 06, 2021 4:27 pm

Not on here a lot anymore, but took this pic today and thought of this forum. :)

My new avatar is Bev, the only chick in my new flock who likes the coop swing. I wish her namesake were here to see the pic.

Swinging chickens for all of you!

This caught me off guard. Haven't heard this in a long time. Nice picture BTW. I registered my latest pup Winterset Bev in honor of Bev. I have named other dogs after Marco, and Olivia people we have lost but have had a connection with in the past on this forum.

Glad to have seen this today.

“Winterset Bev”—what a beautiful name! And to hear the others’ names made me smile.

CrGuy- yes, I believe too that our friends are in harmony with us here.

Oh my goodness....swinging chickens! It used to be said so much on here...I miss it!! :)

I don’t come here much anymore, like I did back in the day. I still check in, though, from time to time. Being here was so important to me, the special connections and friendships I made with my fellow colonclubbers. It was a huge part of my life, being here. It was a great comfort during those dark days, and connecting with others going through the same. No one else could ever understand.

I still reminisce and think about the dear friends we have lost, way too many to mention

Our den mother Bev, a very special lady and deeply missed. We had a connection and kept in touch. Miss her lots. And Marco, what an exceptional young man, I remember us sending him postcards and he would do videos. Oh so sad :

I will continue to check in....it’s been over 10 years since I started coming here. Best wishes to you all

Michelle c ,
Do you remember the elderly gentleman whose daughter told us he adored Christmas and it was going to be his last so we organised cards to come from every corner of the Globe! He was totally surprised when the postman started turning up with sacks of mail !

That would have been catta who started the christmas card mailings for her dad.
I also recall both Marco and Tom ( DK37 ) receiving mailed surprise greeting cards.

and yes .... The whole "swinging chickens" meme had a lot of traction here for quite a while !

Cheers all

Hi Stu,

Yes, I do. From memory, it was a lovely young lady who was at medicine school. She used to post a lot about her wonderful dad. I think they were from Malta. I wonder how she is, I’m sure she’s an amazing doctor.

DBF,
Thanks for reminding us of the swinging chickens. This brings back many memories of times gone by -- and also memories of the original avatar that you had when you first joined this Forum.

I happened to come online today and saw this post. What memories! Bev was certainly our den mother. I remember when she wanted to organize a get together. Unfortunately, that never happened. Belle was such a fighter. Like so many, she tried everything possible, and fought through so many set backs. What can I say about Starbuck? I loved her story of fighting with her neighbor about a dog. Her sudden death was such a shock. So many are gone, but their memories help keep a part of them alive. Tears are flowing thinking of all that aren't here. They were so generous sharing some of their lives with us. So many survivors, and thoughts about them and wondering how they are doing-patients, spouses, children, siblings, friends. They shared their thoughts and struggles and hopes with us. All are missed but not forgotten.

Went in for surgery for a cyst on my bladder, and they found colon cancer growing on the outside of the colon. Got to have two surgeries at the same time! Stage 3, one node involved.

Oh same here.

Bev seemed "famous" to me when I first posted on here. I was so honored when she wrote at length to answer my questions about radiation.

I had a horrible surgery recovery and was on a wound vac for three months. I couldn't move, I was in so much pain. I would spend all day reading posts and replying to everyone. Haha. I had nothing else to do.

I remember there was all this drama with someone getting banned for some reason and he created a new "secret" screen name but we all knew it was him. Then this whole thread got locked because of it. So much drama. I don't even remember what it was all about, except that it was very entertaining at the time.

BTW, my rear surgery wound still has not healed to this day!! It broke back open a couple of years after it finally closed, and I refused to get another surgery to fix it. It mostly doesn't bother me unless I sit on a hard surface for an extended length of time, and I will see some bleeding for a few days. I just try to keep it as dry as possible and it seems to do okay. We are just going to live with each other for now.
