PET Scan Machine Fit?

Postby crikklekay » Fri Apr 30, 2021 12:20 pm

My husband's oncologist has ordered a PET scan to investigate a rise in CEA levels, but he received a rejection from the cancer center because he is just barely over the weight limit of the table? The idea of table weight limits never even crossed my mind as he's had at least a dozen CT scans by now, but it sounds like another cancer center nearby has a PET scanner with a higher weight table. I started looking into it and it sounds like PET scanners in general have narrower tunnels for the machine compared to CT scanners. Trying to find the size of the opening of the specific hospital's machine is nearly impossible, and I'm worried about how small it might be? John is built like a linebacker, tall and broad, is that going to be a problem? Has anyone else run into this particular issue?
