My mum needs prayers

Postby Mercy110 » Sat Mar 06, 2021 11:13 am

It has been a while since my last post here. My mum, who is a stage 4 rectum cancer patient, is not doing good recently. She has been fighting so hard for the disease but the lung met is very progressive. She is now admitted to hospital with 4L oxygen therapy due to her shortness of breath. The doctor said she might not make it this year, even this month actually.

We were not ready to let her go. She hasn’t try Lonsurf yet. We still wanted her to fight cancer but the doctor seems pessimistic. She introduced some kind of infirmary for my mum, which we all don’t want her to go. We are a Christian family, but when it comes to life or death matters, it is still very difficult for us to accept the current condition. We are longing for miracle and hoping that she could stay with us for years, so we really need prayers to stay strong. Thank you in advance.
My Mum (age 56), NRAS-mutate Q61R (from HK)

Thank you all for your blessing.
My mum is now receiving palliative care with 7L O2 and 24-hour morphine injection. I couldn’t accept the change yet as she was able to manage self-care and even housework early this month, and now she couldn’t even manage self-toileting but keep resting on bed.
Their palliative approach is to prevent her from any physical discomfort. For us it’s normal for her to feel shortness of breath after mobilising herself in bed, but doctor and nurses immediately step up her morphine and made her asleep, so that she will be comfortable and ‘free from shortness of breath’. I feel speechless towards the approach, and the clinical team just regarded as ‘not accepting her death’ if we raised these issues...it’s seems helpless right now...

Hi ,
Sending all my love and prayers at such a difficult time . I was uncomfortable when my friend got her morphine increased prior to her requiring it in my eyes but the only aspect I thought about , they have experience in knowing what occurs if they don’t follow that pain management protocol . If they left it longer at that stage would she get really sore and it be more difficult to manage . That’s the only other way I could reason it out .
However I can see how distressing and out of control you feel with this and I hope someone can sit with you and help you work through this .
Sending you all much love ,
