I need to scream this out loud: "GoLYTELY IS OUT OF MY LIFE!"

Postby horizon » Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:15 pm

I have begged. I have pleaded. I have written letters. Every time I need a scope I've been told that "GoLYTELY is the best prep and that's all we'll offer".

I almost didn't even bother asking this time but was told that YES they will prescribe Suprep to me!

No more giant container holding the most heinous, foul tasting liquid to ever exist.

No more drinking so much of that horrible liquid that I feel like I'm going to vomit.

I'm not looking forward to my prep but at least I'm not filled with complete dread about it this time.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

OMG! I need to get this stuff! I live in Australia and have tried a few preps and I just can’t do it anymore!

I’ve always been a “take it in my stride” “just get on with it” “suck it up” kind of gal but I’ve had about eight colonoscopies now and it gets worse each time. It’s like my body has developed an aversion to it. I can no longer drink the prep and it just wants to, and it does, come up again. It makes me so nauseous too. I’ve tried so many ways to drink it. It is ghastly and just thinking about it makes me shudder and heave. I can’t do it anymore, literally. I need something different for my next one.

Does suprep taste ghastly though? Even a small amount I struggle with. I’m thinking there’s no easy way

That's exactly how I was. After doing it so many times I can feel my gag reflex quivering just thinking about it.

I don't know yet but worst case even if it does it's only two glasses of it you have to drink. Even if it was the worst thing in the world (impossible) I would still choose that any day over glass after glass after glass of the second worst thing in the world.

With the preps, are they actually categorized based on how the patient presents?

For example, the first time colonoscopy, no previous surgery, no resections: the colon is in showroom
condition....like a virgin gets (insert name of prep)......through to the person whose colon has been greatly
modified so there's less to cleanse and, I would think, less to drink?! Does it work that way....

michelle c, I am also in Australia so am interested in the names of the preps that you
have sampled - maybe we could do a review like the Whiskey Apostle!

That's a good question. My first gastroenterologist had me do a miralax/dulcolax combo.

After I ditched him and went to my current provider I was told for years that they only did Golytely.

I'm glad you were able to get a different prep. I hope your prep goes well and that you get good results.*hugs* I use pico salax prep which is two mugfuls of prep. I had bipeglyte where I had to take dulcolax then drink two liters of prep. I had an awful time! The next time I said I wanted pico salax.

I want to shake the hand of the person that wrote this review: "This product GoLYTELY tasted exactly like drinking ocean water, a sickening experience. ... Surely there must be plans to stop torturing patients."

My two cents:

Suprep. Very cold (stick it in fridge before you mix). Cut up a lime into wedges. Mix the Suprep. Suck the juice into your mouth, IMMEDIATELY CHUG the Suprep (should take maybe 2 gulps/chugs). IMMEDIATELY grab another line wedge, suck the juice into your mouth,

This is actually almost pleasant. The rest is, of course, up to you.

Thanks for the link Green Tea, it is exactly what I was after.

Five years ago, when I was scheduled for my first post-R. hemi colonoscopy at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, they
sent me two pages of instructions.

"You will need to buy PREP-KIT C from your local pharmacy (script not required). It
contains two (2) sachets of PICO PREP and one (1) sachet of GLYCOPREP"

Long story short the stuff made me chooker than a crook and I ended up back at the Casualty Dept
of Sandy Hospital ... Not. Happy. Jan.

Now I am living in regional Victoria and not quite sure if I want "Hayseed Health Services" insisting on old-school preps.
Still have my GP in Melbourne but due to the "ring of steel" been doing telehealth appointments up to now.

And to rub it in....around the corner from where I live is a mob that do colonic irrigations.....just what I need, constant
reminder that I am a heretic naturopath.  Bring it!

That's a good strategy with the lime wedges, roadrunner. Might add tequila.

Wow! What do you think the odds are of living around the corner from a colonic irrigation office?

I don't know. Do you think that is a sign that maybe you might consider switching from a heretic to believer naturopath?

Like what if it is the key to ending your discomfort?

Like, what if???? :o

Thanks for the tip. I might give that a go. Actually, I'm not really worried about how it tastes (famous last words). I figure I can choke down two glasses of anything. After about the seventh glass of golytely my spirit is broken.
