FIT test result unclear?

Postby 2ndfit » Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:51 pm

Hello all -

I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy on Dec 12th and recently took an at home FIT test but I'm left a little weary. I've attached a picture of the results of the test and would like some opinions: is this considered a positive? A single line by the "C" indicates a negative but a faint line at "T" also appeared.

Can anyone shed any light or share their experience with this type of test?

Thanks.

I don’t know the exact instructions for your FIT test but it looks similar to a pregnancy test and that pic were following the rules for a pregnancy test it would be considered positive. However a positive FIT merely indicates the presence of blood which could be caused by many things besides cancer. Have you experienced bleeding? I’m glad you are getting a colonoscopy next week—please keep us posted.

I bought two FIT tests before my diagnosis and both were positive. That’s what pushed me to talk to my doctor. You are already scheduled for your colonoscopy so you’re taking the necessary steps to find out what’s going on.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I've seen blood on toilet paper but not in the toilet. And the blood that's on the toilet paper s just a few tiny specks but this is what's prompted me begin this whole process.

I'll be sure to report back but I'm pretty unsettled by all this.

Did you have any other issues/symptoms leading up to your FIT test and colonoscopy?

I have specks of blood on the toilet paper but none that I can see in the toilet.

I'll definitely report back after my scope.

Not sure why my posts keep disappearing...

I haven't experienced bleeding per se, I've only seen blood on the toilet paper and when it's present, they're like specks of blood... Nothing profuse.

What symtpoms did you have leading up to FIT test/diagnosis?Wish I could just fast forward the week.

The only real symptoms I recognized at the time was an odd intestinal burning sensation and I thought I may have seen some blood but wasn’t 100% sure.

I hope it ends up being something besides cancer. You are doing the best possible thing by getting it checked out. Hang in there!

Try not to stress too much. There are many reasons for finding blood on the toilet paper, and it is usually not cancer-related. You are doing the right thing to get a colonoscopy though.

For what it's worth, I was seeing blood and mucus on the toilet paper for several weeks before my diagnosis, and my FOBT test still came back negative! Unfortunately these tests are known to have rather poor accuracy which can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety.

Well for the first time ever, I actually saw blood on my stool. That was pretty unsettling. Wednesday can't come soon enough

Just updating: colonoscopy was all clear.

For any poor soul that's freaking out: I had blood on toilet paper, a streak of blood on my stool, and tested positive on a FIT test. Internal hemorrhoids was deemed the cause.

Don't freak out, get tested as soon as you have symptoms, you'll be fine.
