At my doctor appointment 2 weeks ago I was questioning her about possible surgical options after I get my next CT scan. Originally she said she wanted to start with chemo to see if things shrink.
All we know for sure from my first scan in October and a diagnostic laparoscopy is there is thickening of the colon wall in the transverse colon, and that there are tumors on my perinotneum and on one ovary. So I asked about HIPEC, hysterectomy, and colon resection. She kinda looked at me crazy and asked me what I meant when I mentioned HIPEC. She actually told me she didn't know enough about it and that she'd research it.
So I go back and see her today and have my 6th chemo treatment. She said she looked into HIPEC and that depending on what the scans show it's definitely a possibility, but that she would want me to go someplace that has a lot of experience in doing the procedure. My scan is next Friday, February 5th, and I'll get the results on the 8th. I will have more chemo on the 8th, but I do know that I have to wait 6 weeks before any surgery because she's got me on Avastin right now. So I have some time for a surgical consult I guess.
My question is does anyone have any insights as to someplace in the Midwest - I'm in between Milwaukee and Chicago that would be a good choice for a surgical opinion? She said she doesn't want me at Froedert because the dr that specialized in HIPEC is leaving that hospital. I wasn't impressed with Froedert anyways because that's where I first had my initial onc appointment and the dr basically told me there would be no cure for me so I was not comfortable with him treating me at all.
Even if I had to travel further away I will do it - anything I can do to beat this I'm willing to try.
