I'd hope the purpose is to be a source of support and information that enables all of us to live better and longer lives. And that includes people at ALL stages and phases of the journey.

While I value this board tremendously for the kindness, sympathy and encouragement I've received here, I think I value it most of all as an honest source of information that's not always readily available from our medical practitioners. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I've improved my odds of winning this battle as a direct result of things I've learned (and continue to learn) from the members here.

O/T post

Postby O Stoma Mia » Mon Jan 11, 2016 1:48 pm

I think one purpose of this forum is to have O/T posts from time to time...

For example, here is an O/T post of a Pomeranian pooch having fun on a new segment of The Path of the Flood Trail in Western Pennsylvania ... :D

NZ, I really liked your response. The thread referenced was so encompassing of the human experience, including humor, compassion.
It is up to any one individual & one's skill set, if you will, in how they choose to express themselves, just as we choose how to interpret what we read or hear. So what is good for one, maybe not good for another.

CT is not an easy place to be. Our Memorial sticky thread is testimony to that.

It's ok to have differing opinions...keeps the blood flowing. We all get offended/irritated on here...many times I would say...AND we move forward. I've often wondered why some choose not to have signatures...unless there is fear that the system could get hacked & somehow link a dx w/a name/email. I think it's helpful to offer & receive input from those w/a sig, somewhat of a keep out sign w/o one, so more inclined to interact w/those that do.

The most important purpose of this forum is it removes isolation & through that...all the aforementioned benefits you all have mentioned, occur.

I'm with Chrissy on this, well said. I remember one post in particular, that said he was put on the national no credit list, because he had cancer. I really liked that man a lot! As goes with everything, if you pay your bills on time, there probably isn't a list  If you prefer not to have a signature, that is your prerogative, although most people don't have the time, to give a reasonable answer to your question, if they don't know where you are at in your treatments. As far as medical advise, your medical team will gladly give you that information, as that is what you pay them to do. With side effects, we can be quite competent, to relieve some of the anomalies involved with cancer therapy's. No one gets it like we do, and we know how to talk about Pooh  He's my favorite Bear 8)

Kathryn created a topic for stage 4 patients only because there are a lot of people who don't want to hear 'negative things'. They were/are a group of people that wanted to talk openly. I read here every day but don't post much. I love reading the good post about NED & other off topic threads. But when there is a problem, y'all are the first people I think of. Collectively, we have been through every possible scenario. For me-this is what this forum is for.

I am sorry that any of us have to be here....

I believe the true purpose of this forum IS ...
to bring all of the people who ARE here, have been here and ...
WILL BE HERE ... TOGETHER

wherever we may have come from or are going to ...
whatever we may have or have not survived or encountered ...
whatever we ourselves NEED or what we may have to offer others ...

The purpose of this forum is to bring us all together.

WORD !
