The new upgrade to the ColonTalk message board installed earlier this week reveals several changes:

  • New Features - There are a few new features that weren't there at all in the previous release. The main changes seem to be in the layout and arrangement of items in this new, updated proSilver theme, but there are some other changes scattered around here and there in the sub-menus (see below).
  • Discontinued Features - There are a few features that have been dropped completely in this release, probably for security reasons or for database efficiency reasons -- but we haven't been told why they were dropped.
  • Upgraded features - There are some features that have now been upgraded with hopefully improved functionality.
If you are having trouble finding links to your favorite forum features, there are two places to start looking: Some of the old features are now grouped in a drop-down menu called "Quick links", which you will find by clicking on the icon in the upper left-hand corner of the main message-board page. Another set of old features is now grouped together and located in a drop-down menu attached to your Username in the very upper right-hand corner of the main page. To access this drop-down menu, click on your Username or on the down-arrow just to the right of your Username. This menu has many sub-menu items as well.

Here is a summary of where some the main features are located in the newly updated software:

Has something happened with the email alerts for PMs? I am no longer getting emails when someone sends me a PM. I checked my settings (which I didn't change) and it still shows the checkmark next to the option to send an email to me when I get a PM, yet I received two of them yesterday and never got an email for them.

thanks

All of this stuff should have migrated over from the old system, BUTT the notifcations are different from the old version so you may need to ensure your settings are all in order.

in the User Control Panel / Board preferences / Edit notification options / Miscellaneous Notifications :
Someone sends you a private message has both EMAIL and NOTIFICATIONS options.
Make sure both are checked off and see if a Forum Notification shows up with the next PM as they are different from the emails.

In the User Control Panel / Board preferences / Edit global settings make sure the Users can contact me by email: is set to YES as well as the Allow users to send you private messages: option.
you might also check the Edit posting defaults / Notify me upon replies by default: is set to YES.

AND
in the User Control Panel / Profile / Edit account settings make sure the Email address: is correctly filled in.
Make sure you SUBMIT any changes you have made when you are finished on each page.

These are all the things that come to mind right now. If there are still issues we can let Sergei know.

HTH
Cheers and Happy PM'ing

For me, there are still multiple issues in the PM management area -- actually, more than I can count right now.

One of them is that the system is no longer able to keep track of how many PMs I have in my folders. An example of this is shown below;

Image

In my PM backup folder, the system now claims that my backup folder is completely full (50/50 messages stored), but in fact the folder is completely empty ( No messages). Now I cannot back up any more PMs because the system claims that I have reached the maximum limit of 50 messages -- but this is not true. There is plenty of room to store backup PMs there, but the system doesn't seem to recognize this fact.

This sort of thing never happened under the old system. And there are many more problems now, most of them related to the PM message-store database.

Would you be able to let Sergei know about this? Many thanks.

sounds like we may have a problem if your pm mailbox is full. I Increased the maximum size to 100, could you see if that helped.

That is great! Is there any way to increase the data allowance in the signature field? We have had comments on this.

Thx

Sure, why not, I doubled the signature size. Just make sure it doesn't take the whole page or crguy will ban you

I have noticed the notification feature for "suscribed" threads, which are basically threads one has previously posted on, will not allow to receive email only. I find the notification feature annoying/distracting for some reason @ the top right. Is there a gliche in the system, I'm wondering, because upon marking email only, both email & notifications boxes are automatically marked again after submitting my preference of email only. My attempt was to have one or the other, not both, so have discontinued notifications altogether.
