Please help..

Postby cwilliams5 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 9:37 pm

I completely understand that yall receive these posts by the bucket-loads and for that I ask for forgiveness in advance.

Ok so the past two weeks I have been having a severe stomach ache.. I say ache because that's the only way to describe it. One day I woke up and my stomach felt as if someone punched me and twisted my gut. Since then, there has been a lingering ache in my lower abdomen and occasionally sharp pains that come across from my stomach to my side. Then, Sunday night (11/24), I noticed a dark hue in the toilet bowl and after wiping (I know, TMI ) I realized that it was a toilet bowl full of blood.. Not bright blood but a deep dark.. almost brown hue. Over the last week I have also noticed that I became more constipated and now have to strain to get anything out. I took an occult blood test but I still have two more applications before I am completely done with the kit so I don't know the results of that yet.

I cant go to the hospital because I don't have insurance but I will if I have to. After reading the symptoms for colon cancer I completely lost it. I basically convinced myself that I have colon cancer and haven't stopped crying sense; I have completely fell apart. Im only 20 but I am an overweight AA male and I read that all of this gives me a higher risk. Even though I'm 20 I now realize that young folks are not immune to getting cancer.

So, do yall recommend going to the ER to see if they can scan me for cancer? Aren't these real symptoms of colon cancer or am I losing my mind. Please help if you can. I realize that some of you fight this daily and for that I consider each of you heroes. I just don't want to die before my life starts seeing as how I just had a child July 2013. Please offer your opinion. Anything will help.

There are different conditions that could cause you to have the symptoms you are having, but you need to get medical treatment. We cannot diagnose you here and we do understand that this a very frightening situation, especially without insurance. Please go to the ER right away and have someone take you there, assuming you might be admitted. Your pain and other symptoms need to be diagnosed and treated quickly.

Keep us informed of your condition.

I'm with Janderson and everyone else. I had similar symptons, ignored for prolonged periods by me, and then my local GP (primary care doctor) and by the time I got a colonoscopy I was at stage IV
Stop mucking about with this site, and get your rear down to somewhere like a GI specialist, or if you can't afford it, the nearest hospitals ER
It may be nothing, or it may be the best thing you ever did

You will need a colonoscopy. You might can get an expedited one if you have a local gastroenterologist. That, would be cheaper than the er. However,if the bleedimg continues ER's receiving public funding are obligated to see you if your situation is emergent. As someone said go prepared to be admitted. I had colonoscopy one day and surgery the next and that was on a weekend. This is all scary and overwhelming to you. It is very possible it's not cancer but its not worth taking a chance. I thought mine was hemorrhoids. Keep us updated and good luck.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

Ok guys... Update.

I still have not gotten a colonoscopy because I cant find someone who will take me. But I did go to the ER last night and he said my blood work was normal, my CT scan was normal but my occult blood test came back positive but he figured it would since he actually saw blood when he did the DRE. He says that nothing is wrong with my stomach and that there is no VISIBLE cancer but I know that does not mean much as smaller cancers can be missed on a abdominal CT. He also said that he figured that the blood was coming from the colon area closer to the anal opening.. At this point im overwhelmed.

Does anyone know what this could mean?

Hi, C Williams,
What this means is you have done all you can do for now. You should wait until all the test come back from the ER, and then make the needed decisions. Of course we are not physicians familiar with your specific situation, and your local medical help has a lot more information at their disposal. Colon cancer is usually slow growing, and if nothing is blatant, then you have a little time to find the cause of your dilemma.
Regards,
Michael
