New to Board

Postby Leegwen » Thu Aug 22, 2013 3:19 pm

Hello to all. I hope I'm not on the wrong board for I have not been diagnosed with colon cancer, but I do have some concerns. I have had several colonoscopies over the years (I'm 64) and the results have always come back with the removal of what my doctor terms "precancerous polyps." This past December, I had the procedure done again, and the doctor removed 12 polyps which included multiple serrated sessile polyps (the polyps changed over the years) from the rectum and other areas of the colon. He suggested I have the procedure done again this December.

What concerns me is that, since my last colonoscopy (unlike previous ones), I have noticed a significant change in consistency/frequency of my stools, which are very soft and somewhat thin. I am also experiencing frequent stomach cramps/pain - recently, one so severe it woke me. I wonder if there might be cause for me to be concerned and call my doctor, or if I should hold out for my next colonoscopy, which is scheduled in a few months.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Personally I would go get another colonoscopy, at minimum I would schedule a consult with my GI. You seem to have had many polyps, and that is a precursor to possible problems. JMHO,
Regards,
Michael

As usual, I agree with Michael. Likely, it's nothing, but probably best to get an expert opinion.

Good luck to you,

Just some thoughts...

Was your doctor able to get all the way through to the end of your colon? Not sure if a colonoscopy reaches the small intestines too?

If the pain persists don't let them put you off. It's already been said that its probably nothing and that is true but I thought it wass nothing and put it off. Get checked. Good luck.

Leegwen - If I were in your position, I would not wait until December. For peace of mind, I would try to obtain an expert opinion, perhaps from a different doctor or with a different scanning method. Also, the point made by chrissyrice is an important one: In performing the colonoscopy, did the doctor manage to probe the entire colon, or did he just get through to the lower end (i.e., did he just do a sigmoidoscopy, not a colonoscopy)?

Thank you all for responding. I appreciate your advice and will follow-up with my GI. For those who asked, I did have a colonoscopy in December 2012.

So glad to have found this board.
