That is fantastic mich! I know a woman who was diagnosed just a little bit before I was, maybe a year and she is still surviving. She has never been NED that entire time as far as I know but is going strong and it has been at least 13 years. She just wanted to see her kids graduate from college, and certainly has done that and has recently adopted a foster child that she was taking care of.

I guess for me it is going on 11 years now. Technically when I was diagnosed I was Stage III but they didn't realize I had a liver tumor also, so I was restaged. I guess you start measuring from the day of diagnosis, eh? :D

Here's to many more years for your husband! I look forward to seeing who else posts.

OK, I'm only a stage III C, but this coming April (April/2013), I'm coming up on 9 yrs since diagnoses. In Aug, 2013, 9 yrs since surgery (and some people says that when I became NED 8/04). My first Onc looked at April as my date.

When I was first diagnosed, 9 yrs ago, my stats were 30-60% of being alive in 5 yrs. A lot of progression have been made since then, including chemo and standard protocal. At that time, FOLFOX was only for those with a stage IV cancer diagnoses. It was still considered experimental back in 2004.

Lee
rectal cancer - April 2004
46 yrs old at diagnoses
stage III C - 6/13 lymph positive
radiation - 6 weeks
surgery - August 2004/hernia repair 2014
permanent colostomy
chemo - FOLFOX
NED - 16 years and counting!

SamT doesn't post here anymore but was dx'd Stage IV with over 50 liver tumors in 2005 and is still doing well.
You can do a search for his posts or an internet search on all the papers and patents he has produced in that time. He has a Phd in Chemistry.

I was dx'd Stage IIIB in Jan. 2009 and because a Stage IVa in late Jan. last year. NED after a liver resection on April 11th, 2012 so I am 4 years 24 days out from my original dx.
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.
Pronounced CURED and discharged by onc

I was diagnosed exactly six years ago at stage 3c. We found two lung mets in February of 2010 which I had removed via VATS. I have been Ned since then. Just had a scan the other day. All is well!

That's great news on the scan! So good to see you posting. As you know, you're one of my inspirations around here.

I'm only about 4 years out from dx, but am looking forward to sprinting across the 5-year mark.
