Re: Managing HFS side effects

Hamamelis virginiana is witch hazel, extracts of which are widely available in the US, but I am not sure whether one might be able to mix it with other lotions to replicate this. Witch hazel is an astringent, which makes swollen tissue shrink. Most over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams have astringent...

Re: Managing HFS side effects

Thanks for summarising Green Tea! My husband tried — Udderly Smooth, Eucerin, Working Hands, Burts Bees Salve plus a handful of other moisturisers with UREA in it. According to him, the haemorrhoid cream worked best on his feet as he can really feel the difference. I am wondering if it has to do wit...

Managing HFS side effects

As some of you are aware (if you’ve been following my posts), my husband suffered pretty bad HFS while on Capecitabine. He eventually switched to Teysuno and has been on it for about a year now. HFS improved but it was still bad. He tried pretty much every cream on the market but finally found one t...

Re: Does "We" Drive Anyone Else Crazy?

I think it depends on the individual. It’s funny though, my husband prefers that I make the decision for him which I’d always refuse. I would tell my husband that the choice is his. I would help him and will always be there to support him, but the final decision is ultimately his.

Re: Anyone on daily Xeloda?

My husband was on xeloda 2 weeks on, 1 week off. He suffered very bad HFS and occasional tummy cramps/ diarrhoea so he has switched to Teysuno. Side effects are much milder but still present. Is Teysuno available in the US ? or is it only in the UK? In has been approved for use in EU for over a dec...

Re: Clear scan & deporting (stage IV)

Such amazing news!! Really happy for you Rob! It’s also wonderful that the pandemic is controlled so well down under! My Aussie friends have been enjoying their freedom and I hope you will too. My husband’s oncologist has proposed a 3 months scan instead of 2 since my husband has been NED for more t...

Re: Chemo/radiation - tablets or iv infusion?

Hello Jess My husband was on capecitabine and it has been effective. He downloaded an app to ensure that he doesn’t miss a dose plus we try to ensure he takes it at consistent time of the day. We’ll have dinner every day at the same time and then he takes the pills an hour after. He did suffer bad H...

Re: Covid 19 vaccine

So both myself and my sons got the AstraZeneca vaccine. Was surprised to feel quite ill for 24 hours . My parents had the same one and were fine . Anyway just grateful to have it and there is talk of a third top up in Autumn. The Strain identified in Brazil has arrived in Scotland but contained jus...

Re: New stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis

Hi Bpaint, Glad your husband is responding well to chemo. I just replied to another post with regards to distant lymph nodes — for my husband, he visited 2 hospitals in Singapore and Netherlands, plus offline consultation from an Oncologist in Belgium, unfortunately all recommended maintenance chemo...

Re: Recurrence in retroperitoneal nodes, spine

Other types of resectable mets are routinely removed, but our local hospitals don't do so for lymph nodes. I am also considering a request to go to a larger cancer center than our local one. My husband visited 2 hospitals in Singapore and Netherlands, plus offline consultation from an Oncologist in...

Re: Recurrence in retroperitoneal nodes, spine

Hi Catstaff, I had a surgery in Sept 2020 to remove Para-aortic lymph nodes. First PET scan after was clear but my most recent in February showed more lymph nodes active. They would only do the surgery because they believed they had a chance to remove all the cancer (sadly not so). It does and can ...
