Re: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP

I have FAP, the only one in my family to have it, so it was a spontaneous gene mutation. I had my entire colon and rectum removed. Unfortunately this wasn’t caught before I had cancer. If you keep your rectum you will need to have yearly scopes to check and remove polyps as they will continue to gro...

Re: Working during Irenotecan

I did 49 cycles of folfiri before we stopped it. I didn’t feel very well during most of it, especially the first week after treatment. I didn’t work during any of it but I might have been able to work maybe 3-4 days out of every two week cycle.

Re: Is the Chemo Working?

For folfox and folfiri I have never heard that the side affects were indicative of how successful the treatment is. When I had folfox I did all 12rounds with oxi and didn’t find it too bad but we had to reduce the oxi level a few times due to my neutrophil count being so low, and also the 5fu was lo...

Re: Mop up chemo experiences

Sun sensitivity is a side affect of 5-FU, or Xelox, if you are taking the pill form.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

One thing I was told when I was having nausea issues was not to force yourself to drink something you normally enjoy as it will make you not like it when you feel better. I was told to drink something that I normally didn’t enjoy or was different when I was nauseous.

Re: Rectal Cancer, Folfox, and side effects

I found that my voice got a bit hoarse and raspy for a few days after my folfox treatments but would return to normal about a week after treatment. I think it is a normal thing and wouldn’t be related to any lung Mets.

Re: Side effects question

I found my side effects built up and got worse as they went along. After having folfiri + avastin treatments for about a year the nausea got worse and I was sick a few times. They continued to build over the next year, although we were able to manage them a bit with new medicine, before we stopped f...

Re: OTC Suggestions for Nausea from Oxaliplatin

CBD and/or THC will get rid of it for sure. Depending on what you do for work you would fail a drug test and also if your employer prohibits working while on narcotics you would violate that as well. I stopped working when I was diagnosed and went on our work disability plan so issues with work and ...

Re: Possibly unnecessary open liver surgery

The Mac and Chese Place at the Quincy market is awesome! I would make a trip to get it if I was in Boston :D I kind of understand the eating thing. Even the good days or week when I am on chemo I still don’t feel like my old normal. When I have had chemo breaks I feel back to normal and have an incr...

Re: HUGE amounts of Watery Leakage 24 yrs old. SCARED

You need to see a doctor or go to an emergency room ASAP. They are the only ones who can help you with this. It does sound like colon cancer though, as a lot of your symptoms aren’t typical for colon cancer. It does or does not sound like colon cancer? I don't understand your last two sentences. So...

Try an Eakin Seal instead of the ostomy paste. The ostomy paste isn’t an adhesive so it won’t stick anything together, it I mostly used to fill gaps or indents. I find an Eakin works a lot better and is adhesive. And it will protect the skin around the stoma better than a barrier wipe.

Re: Feeling hopeless. Para aortic nodes-inoperable?

I had spread to a para aortic lymph node and then lung mets. Once the lymph node showed up it was declared inoperable and chemo for life. I had opinions from 2oncologists and 2 surgeons and all said the same thing. I’ve been doing folfiri + avastin since the fall of 2015 and just stopped it last wee...

Re: Anyone with Stage IVa just do Xelolda or 5-fu?

When I was on folfox and now I’m folfiri my oncologist said I could have a couple drinks at the end of my 2week cycle if I wanted. She advised not drinking heavily and not doing it during the first part of my cycle when I was getting the actual drugs, not that I would have wanted to then. I do have ...
