Re: Stage IV With Liver Mets

Sorry you have to be here. But it's good that you are. Because you may not have heard of HAI otherwise. On the West Coast, you have basically two options: City of Hope in LA and OHSU in Portland. OHSU's HAI program is headed by Dr. Skye Mayo, who trained at MSKCC (THE center for HAI). City of Hope, ...

Re: 1st bad scanning... advice please!!

I don't disagree about the bedside manner. But, speaking for myself, I consider bedside manner to be overrated, at least relative to skill/results. I don't need a buddy; I have plenty of friends already. For this, I need a bulldog. Our first oncologist had a wonderful bedside manner. She also basica...

Re: 1st bad scanning... advice please!!

Our plan is to get to MSK ASAP now. I finally sent all the documents a few days ago and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'll give them a call today. I want to leave within a week if possible. My hope is that they will operate his liver, since his mets are small now. In his Danish files it said ...

Re: How long does MSK take to get approval to install HAI pump?

Just FYI, the Codman pump is coming back. Bought by private group. Both UCSF and CIty of Hope are aware of this development, and ready to go once the pumps are back in production. I presume MSK knows of this, too.

Re: Just diagnosed

To offer more perspective, we relocated from CA to NJ to get treated at MSKCC. We stayed there for a year, and are now flying in once a month. It's been worth it. For Stage IV treatment, I would recommend being seen at the main campuses in Manhattan, and not at a satellite. The satellites are great ...

Unrelenting fatigue...help!

My wife has been battling Stage IV since May 2018. 22 rounds of chemo (FOLFOX, FOLFIRI), two major surgeries, and gearing up for a third. Since her PVE earlier this month, she has been hit with her strongest bout with fatigue yet, and it's just getting worse. She's spending most of her time in bed. ...

Re: ...progression...

I have seen many, many cases in the various CRC groups of patients who consult for the HAI pump, get approved for the procedure, and then back out for various reasons. Nerves and logistics being the most common. You can see them look for all the reasons not to do the treatment, than accept the reaso...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

Wow, this partner was a friend? Some friend. To add this sort of stress to your husband's life while he's dealing with this? That's not a good person, and was likely never a true friend. Sorry your husband had to find this out. But at least now he knows. I wouldn't actively wish cancer on anyone, bu...

Re: APR surgery for low rectal tumor

I’ve been reading many posts and threads on this topic, as my husband is scheduled for APR in August. He had an LAR in May of 2017, but now has 2 nodes that need to come out. His surgeon biopsied a questionable spot during the most recent scope and it is cancerous. His surgeon feels that the best c...

Re: Questions, questions, too many questions.

Mohrfamily, I'll add that the doctor/center that has given us hope is Dr. Kemeny/MSKCC. We got turned onto Dr. Kemeny and MSK from reading all the stories on the various message boards. Our eternal gratitude to posters like juliej, mariane, and so many others for helping to spread the word. We are f...

Re: Questions, questions, too many questions.

I really hate to say this but, maybe they are trying to tell you something without saying it. As upsetting as it would be to hear it, one might also consider it a favor. Because then you would know where you stood with the onc. You would know they were treating you with that particular outlook. A l...

Re: Questions, questions, too many questions.

Mohrfamily, forgive me if I'm not remembering your story correctly, but aren't you patients at MSK with Dr. Kemeny? Or you've consulted with them already, at least? Yes we did consult with them back in January. DH did more research on the pump and is just not comfortable with the actual pump part. ...

Re: Our Miss Molly/Karen going into hospice

I am so saddened by this. Miss Molly has contributed so much to these boards. When I had questions for her via PM. she answered them in great detail. She just wanted to help. A rare human being. I hope she is at peace and in comfort. Thank you, Miss Molly.

Re: Terrified new member from UK...joined today.

. It's sadly incumbent upon patients/caregivers to be aware of their situation, and all available [EVIDENCE BASED] treatment options. I wish you the best. There I fixed/clarified it (in bold). A good place to start with understanding treatment options are: NCCN guidelines, up-to-date, and onclive.c...
