Re: Extra stoma supplies

I like to donate to Ostomy 2-1-1. It's a nonprofit run by Deb Fox. Donations can be mailed to her at the address below. She can provide you a receipt for your tax deductible donation (I think it's $50/pound).

Re: Foods to avoid during chemotherapy

I did Isagenix shakes with a big fat scoop of ice cream blended in for extra calories. Also, hydration is super important. I used H2ORS and still do. It was developed with chemo patients in mind. You should be able to contact them for samples.

Re: Foods to avoid during chemotherapy

Grapefruit is another one to avoid. I suggest not eating his absolute favorite foods during chemo only because eating it with nausea may turn him off to it in the future. A bland diet was easiest for me to tolerate, supplemented by protein shakes.

Study - Sensitive Topics

I'm working as a patient advocate with a doctor who has received a grant to study survivorship in early onset CRC. Drs are so focused on saving our lives that sometimes (as we often discuss) other things are not (like finances) which may have a big impact on your life. My question is how do you feel...

Re: New and nervous

I'm sorry that you have to be here, but this is a great place to be. Amazing folks here who just get what you're going through because we've all been there to one degree or another. I'm so sorry that you've lost your dad and and are going through so much, but I'm so glad that you are getting a colon...

Re: 23 years old with stage 4 colon cancer

I was dx'd at 29 as stage 3 and have had mets to stage 4. At one point, I was told that I had an 8% chance of survival. I have now been at this for 11 years, walking this journey more like a chronic disease and not like the disease that's going to kill me. There is hope! That being said, I highly re...

Re: Oncologist—do they have to be local?

Mayo (and the other big oncologists) has plenty of experience with being your primary onc, and working with your local onc to execute the plan. Personally I think you have bigger benefits with making Mayo primary because they have more experience, depth of bench (specialists), and resources. Using t...

Re: Happy World Ostomy Day!

CRguy, slow and steady should be your motto this weekend. So much to be thankful for.

P.s. Just claim one of the restrooms and tell everyone it's off limits! And then, have an extra helping of dessert for me. :)

Happy World Ostomy Day!

For over a decade, I went through treatments and surgeries for stage IV rectal cancer but never needed an ostomy. About a year ago, I had a recurrence that ended in me becoming an ostomate. Getting a colostomy wasn't a big deal to me because I have been in the CRC world for so long and I've been aro...

Re: Bev G

I'm absolutely devastated. Like the other "old timers" here, I had the privilege of sharing many conversations with Bev. She was full of nothing but love and encouragement for all of us here. Our Den Mother shared so much of herself with us and she will be deeply missed. Let's all do somet...

Re: New worried member...

Cannot agree more with the others. There are too many of us who have been dismissed by doctors because we are "too young for cancer" or some other excuse. If cost is an issue, look into local programs that may help with a colonoscopy, talk to their finance, DO SOMETHING. Do not wait.
