Re: Lung cancer spots ... Chemo for life?

Welcome to the board, you are doing great looking after your mother. I have had the lung laser surgery which Lee mentions and have been NED for three years. It is expensive if you don't have insurance to pay for it but it can remove multiple mets and it can be repeated as very little lung tissue is ...

Re: ADAPT and Celebrex - What happened?

Cynthia - so nice to see you are doing OK. I take 1000mg of xeloda morning and evening for two weeks then one week off then start again. I take 200mg celebrex morning and evening every day, no break. I also take 400mg cimetedine twice a day although this is not part of ADAPT. The xeloda dose is low ...

Re: ADAPT and Celebrex - What happened?

I have been on ADAPT protocol of 1000mg capecitabine and 200mg of celecoxib on a three week cycle since August 2014. I started when I got home to New Zealand three weeks after my third lung laser thoracotomy surgery in Europe which made me to NED. When I started this regime my oncologist in New Zeal...

Re: Chronic Anastomotic Sinus After Surgery

Hi Ballcoach10 I had eight weeks of daily hyperbaric oxygen treatment last year at a government funded hospital in New Zealand which healed my pelvic fractures caused by radiation treatment in 2011 - it wasn't just that I felt better, CT scans showed that the necrotic bone had regrown and was health...

Re: Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Good for Cancer treatment?

I had 8 weeks of daily HBOT at a government funded hospital last year to repair pelvic bone necrosis caused by chemorad in 2011. It was a high pressure chamber for 6 people with a nurse in the chamber with us. It worked very well, scans showed my fracture healed, but they did say I would need to rep...

Re: ADAPT protocol

There are quite a few posts by Maia about this if you want to look them up, she has many links to information about it and I have posted about it too, but Maia is the most knowledgeable. Basically it is a trial combining low dose capecitabine (oral 5fu, also called xeloda) with celecoxib, an arthrit...

Re: Time to decide whether to do chemo or just observe

It has been a while ago but we old timers remember Traveller 101, Carmen, Cherie and many many other friends who were called cured after completing ordinary chemo treatment left them NED but then aftertime the non evident tumours grew so they became recurrence or spread they found extra treatment wa...

Re: Skin prep for ileostomy

Chickspeed you have my sympathy, I know it is difficult to deal with an ostomy, both the physical and mental adjustment. I found the cavillon wipes and spray helped and the powder was good too. I have a reaction to plasters and the glue on the bag caused a constant painful rash wherever it touched. ...

Re: Hellooo Neuropathyiiiiiiiiiii

Ana, my onc said that everyone has a different personal dose of xeloda - she said that they start at the highest dose and then decrease jt according to side effects, the right dose is just below side effects. I take 1000mg twice a day as maintenance for nearly 3 years. For the oxi each dose is less ...

Re: Things people say or don't say but it's okay

When I read this the only thing which comes to mind is another quote from the movie Top Gun : " You didn't learn a damn thing, did you? "- Charlie to Maverick So mpber maybe you could count up the hours which people here have spent trying to help you and your husband - those hours are pro ...

Re: Lung Cancer. Your thoughts please.

Lee has a good point - radiation does keep on giving - and a scan or x ray done a couple of months after treatment will show the full effect/benefit of radiation and only then can an ongoing plan be drawn up. It may seem like treatment is on hold but really it is just a pause to assess what the trea...

Re: Things people say or don't say but it's okay

Once again I have to say that this board is amazing - so many people have given so much of their time to craft polite, helpful, non-threatening replies to a stranger in need of help. Whether that gift of help is accepted or not is up to the OP - but nothing she/he says can diminish the good intentio...
