Re: Stage 2a chemo or no chemo

My husband was also a stage ll, but he was a t4 and was positive for lymph vascular invasion of the large blood vessels. We traveled to MDA for advice and still go there for surveilance. It was highly recommended by his oncologist there that we do 12 rounds of folfox which we did. My husband has bee...

Re: Home

Thats great news. Removing 27 nodes for sampling was excellent. The more you remove the better. Your surgeon did a great job with that. Hope all continues to go well,

Re: CEA rise and fissures

My husband had some ulcerated areas in his colon on one occasion. We asked the gastro & oncologist if that could be the reason for his cea going up to 5.7 from 3.2 in a matter of 2 months. He said no. But on a more positive note, it wasn't cancer again either. Our oncologist at MDA said that som...

Re: CEA and Stage II

Vol,

My husband was a stage II and his CEA was 5.9 before surgery. It remained high all the way thru chemo. It finally came down about one month after he completed chemo. It now fluctuates between 2.5 - 3.1. This past march it was 2.7. He has been NED since February 2011.

Re: Would you get chemo for stage IIA?

Nate, Stage III is only when there is lymph node involvement. What I was questioning is your stage IIa, and not IIb. My husband was a IIb because he was a T4 which indicated that the tumor protruded the outer most layer of the colon wall, which put him in a high risk category for spread/re-occurrenc...

Re: Alternating periods of diarrhea and constipation

I agree with Teddi, my husband had many problems with diarrhea after his surgery. Thru trials in diet, adding this, taking away that ect. we discovered that caffeine was the number one culprit. He is now on a caffeine free diet and his problem is 95% better. We discovered he is very sensitive to it ...

Re: Would you get chemo for stage IIA?

Nate, I have a question. You said the tumor did protrude the outside of the colon wall. If 'that's the case, then I would think your a t3 or t4 which would put you at high risk for re occurrence. Also were your cells low grade or high grade? My husband was also a stage ll, his tumor also protruded t...

Re: What are the best Cancer Hospitals? Things are getting worse

My husband was treated at MDA a got excellent care. My sister went to the Fred Hutch cancer center in Washington State because she lived on the west coast and was very happy with her care there. I also here very good things about Salon kettering( not sure if I spelled that correct) in New York.

Re: anastomotic inflammation or recurrence? Help!

My husband on his first colonoscopy after completion of chemo also had inflammation and some ulceration at the connection site as well. Our gastro. and oncologist both told us that it is very common for this to show up on a colonoscopy after treatment. They did biopsies of it anyway to satisfy our a...

Richard, Sorry your having to go thru so much. I'm a very prayerful person and also believe that God's hand is in everything that comes our way whether good or bad. The bad part is sometimes hard to understand and digest, but that comes with grace from prayer. It was prayer and the trust in God that...

Re: Hair regrowth after FOLFOX...how long?

My husbands hair thinned out a lot while going thru folfox. I would say he lost about 50% of it. You couldn't notice though because it was so thick to begin with. It started thickening up again about 1-2 months after his last treatment and is now just as it was before any chemo.

Re: Immune system

I know some of the healthiest people in the world who exercised, eat correctly, looked great, got plenty of rest, had low stress in their lives and had healthy immune systems. They too got cancer! I think there' s a lot more to it then just immune system stuff. It's very complex. Perhaps that's why ...

Re: FOUNDATION ONE TESTING

I agree that in many cases, the provider/place that does the testing is responsible for pre-authorization. On one occasion, the hospital did not get pre- authorization for my husbands pet scan and the insurance denied payment. The hospital tried to bill us, but the insurance company stepped in and t...
