Re: Has anyone had to have another LAR?

NHMike, I definitely find the colostomy easier to deal with than the illeostomy. I hope you can find a solution for LARS. I don’t miss that pain. Take care.

Re: Has anyone had to have another LAR?

Hi, thought I would check in and update in case someone out there is deciding on surgery. First of all, I had an APR and not another LAR. This experience has been completely different from my first surgery. I went on Tuesday, 10/6, and had robotic surgery for APR plus a hernia repair and ovary remov...

Re: Has anyone had to have another LAR?

Hi, Beach Sunrise. Thank you for the advice. I’ll definitely check that out because I’m pretty sure I’m going with the permanent colostomy. I’ll post again after my appointment. Take care.

Re: Has anyone had to have another LAR?

Thank you, Lee. I am trying to gather my thoughts for my appointment. I think my main concerns with the colostomy are the adhesive, leaks, and concern with smells. When I had my first surgery I wasn’t expecting a bag so it took me a few days to accept it. I wouldn’t even look at it until about 4 or ...

Has anyone had to have another LAR?

It’s been awhile since I have checked in. In March I had my final scan and oncologist appointment. I was released because I have been cancer free for 5 years. So, I’m obviously happy about that but I was overdue for my colonoscopy and a series of unfortunate events including my GI was going to be ou...

Re: GI appointment

I'm sorry it didn't help you. Most people don't see a change for a month or so, it can take awhile to get the gluten out of your system. I hope you find a solution soon. ♡

Re: GI appointment

DE, I haven't been on here in awhile so I'm not up to date, but you mentioned LAR syndrome and that caught my attention. I thought I had LAR syndrome and tried everything besides pain pills which was the main solution all the doctors suggested. I was told my pain was because of radiation damage and ...

Re: OT- Should I try going gluten free?

You should try it and see if it helps. I had my reversal last March and was in pain most of the time. I told every doctor I saw and their only solution was pain pills....no, thank you. I was in agony every morning for about 3 - 4 hours after multiple bms and I was considering going back to the bag. ...

Re: Local Excision Pain and Recovery Time

I had an excision before my lar. My surgeon said it was just a little worse than a colonoscopy....not! It took about 4 weeks to be able to sit on the floor without pain. I didn't have constipation issues, but I just wanted to let you know that it does get better.

Re: LAR or Not

I had a flat polyp that everyone thought was stage 1. I had a tae and was told to follow up with the oncologist. After a ct and pet scan showed 2 lymph nodes that slightly concerned my oncologist, I was sent back to my surgeon. The surgeon and oncologist thought that a lar was over treating but they...
