Re: Survivors Guilt

Sadly I have been there. I was really tough being the survivor, knowing things were so positive for myself while two family members were battling and loosing. I was due for reversal surgery the day my brother in law passed away from sarcoma. Thankfully I was never shut out by him or the family. It w...

Re: Genetic testing - what is involved?

In australia you can not be refused health insurance or have especial conditions (including increased costs) for health insurance. Life/income/trauma insurance is different and can come with extra costs or cover declined. The genetic testing can take time as it's all public health. I was lucky and h...

Re: Lynch Syndrome 2013, just diagnosed colon cancer

I found the diagnosis really tough. And I do find it hard to put to the back of mind. I have decided that life is too short to waste. I no longer worry about the small and big things. I am not planning a long retirement but I am fine with that. I too believe I will get cancer again at some point. Do...

Re: What is the prep for the first colonoscopy after a LAR?

That seems over the top. Is the scope being done by your surgeon or by some one else. I doubt you would need to do a standard prep for a person with their full large bowel. I found i was almost cleaned out by my first picoprep and the second seemed redundant. I will question my prep plan when I go f...

Re: What is the prep for the first colonoscopy after a LAR?

Prep after my LAR was so easy compared to my diagnosing prep. Have a tumour obstructing the way meant it was a difficult and painful, ended up vomiting up most of the prep. Post LAR it was easy and no vomitng. It's an exhausting time between no food and serious bowel movements. The trip in the car w...

Re: To stop chemo?

I wanted to stop chemo to reverse my stoma, just because I hated it so much. My oncologist and surgeon both pushed me to continue which I did. I found it tough and they changed my chemo program to get me through the last two rounds. Discuss it with his specialists but I would recommend continuing th...

Re: Getting the port removed

I had my port out with my reversal. 1 month post my last chemo. I wanted it out as I knew the regular visits for flushing would not let me put this is the past. My onc said it was fine so it came out then. I do understand I could need another one but I chose that option, my decision.

Re: Strange, perhaps idiotic question

Honestly, during treatment life was better. Everyone I saw once I was on treatment were amazed and impressed with how well I looked for some one under going chemo. Prior to diagnosis I was exhausted, fatigued, loosing to much weight, constantly in the bathroom, all while ploughing a head with life -...

Re: 27 - sessile serrated polyp

I am lynch positive and I had 3 sessile serrated popyls removed at my first colonoscopy post surgery (16 months post first colonoscopy that was my diagnosis). I am discovering that there are a few cases in my family history of lynch cancers but I didn't know they were there until really talking to m...

Re: Low rectal cancer - deferral of surgery?

I personally would be in the no surgery camp. I feel I could not have a permanent bag (I had a temp ileo for 5 months). I hope more studies come out and show what the statistics show. I had a complete response both clinical and pathological. It is hard to think about how I would be with out my LAR s...

Re: colon cancer diagnosis while in their 20's

I was 29 when diagnosed. My first GI said it was there about 12 months prior to my ct scan. They now think it was there for a few years. I will admit it took 3 gp visits before I actually mentioned my change in bowel habits. I had to push for the colonoscopy and then almost cancelled it because of t...

Re: Lynch Syndrome

Colon cancer is very common so it can look like it is genetic but that is not always the case. Early onset is a factor towards lynch syndrome. I have just gone through the screening tests in Australia. Very positive experience in terms of assistance. I am lynch positive with no family history. Your ...

What you do when you chose to consume irritants

Ok so I know that avoiding irritants is the wisest choice but some times you just have to live life and deal with consequences. Does any one have techniques for reducing the side effects. I have my annual work awards night coming up. It's a serious frock up event with awesome food, drink and dancing...

Thinking of you.
I am lynch positive and I do worry about my two daughters. Even with out the lynch testing they will still need to have early colonoscopies but less often if they don't show positive.

Re: question on post-treatment scans for stage III

I was 3c, I will have alternating ultrasounds and cts every 6 months via my onc. My surgeon has ordered a CT half way between two scans and I will do that one. I am concerned that I don't want to over radiate my body as I am still young. On top of that I am lynch positive so recurrence rates are low...
