Nearly 16 years

Hello everyone, I haven’t been here for a while but I just wanted to post a message of hope. I know how important they are, especially when first diagnosed. I was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer (sigmoid) in May 2009 (can’t believe it was that long ago!) I was so fearful at first, especially a...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Hello fellow warriors, I haven’t been here in a while but just thought I’d post an update on here. I hope it helps someone who has been diagnosed and looking for positive stories. I was diagnosed in May 2009 with stage III colon cancer (sigmoid). I had surgery the following week and then commenced c...

Re: Port decision

My surgeon and onc said to remove it after treatment finished. I was a little scared and wanted to keep it a little longer, I told my surgeon that I didn’t want to jinx myself. He smiled at that but still thought he should remove it. My port was a “good one” as reported by all the chemo nurses. I ha...

Re: Stage 3B 1 node positive

I was diagnosed stage III colon cancer and started my chemo as soon as possible post surgery. It is important to start chemo within a certain window post surgery. Mine was about four weeks. I did 12 treatments (6 months). I have never heard that chemo can cause cancer to spread. That makes no sense ...

Re: I'm having obsessive thoughts as to why?

People seem to have a belief that you either have to be old, fat, a smoker, unfit, poor eater to get cancer. It’s not always the case. Children get cancer too. It doesn’t make sense or seem fair. I think we all wonder why it happened to us. Try not to overthink it. Wishing you the best

Re: Failed prep (hubby) could this be sign of CRC?

Just wondering if after his prep, was he excreting clear waste, yellow or light brown in colour and clear? Or was he excreting watery brown stools that were not clear? Did the doctor know what was causing the blockage? What could he see with the scope? You would think that if a tumor was blocking hi...

Re: Just saying hello!

Hellooooo Cindy! I remember you! I do! You and your beloved Stephen. I’m not sure if I replied to any of your posts, but I would have if I could have shared my experiences and provided support to you. I do remember reading your posts and how devoted you were to Stephen. I only check in a little here...

Re: Chemo every 2 weeks vs 3 weeks

I remember wondering this too and asking my oncologist. I can’t remember what he said exactly but I know it was recommended to have chemo every two weeks - something about the cycle of the cancer and the timing to kill off the cancer cells before they could multiply or something like that. Sorry I’m...

Hello,

You sound a lot like me when I was diagnosed in 2009.

I am still here, just wanted you to know that.

Re: New Sigmoid colon cancer diagnosis

Hello, A cancer diagnosis is very overwhelming! I had surgery nine days after my diagnosis. I have to say that I was glad it happened quickly. I just wanted it out. I’m not a very patient person, and waiting longer would have heightened my anxiety. Although I was a bit anxious about surgery, it coul...

Re: Diet & survival - where are we at?

I have been reading up on nutrition. It seems that good quality red meat is not the culprit due to it being nutritionally dense but rather vegetable oils which are toxic to the body. Being vegan is not the answer in my opinion. https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/abcs-of-nutrition/red-meat-fo...

Re: Any young, long term survivors? Need hope

I was 43 but my doctor said that my tumor had been growing for “years”. I was stage III, had surgery and 12 treatments of chemo. I had three kids 12 years and under and I was very frightened that I wouldn’t see them grow up, but here I am, the oldest is now 24. It was very difficult both physically ...

Re: CEA rise during chemo for stage III

I had my CEA, along with other bloods, tested prior to each chemo treatment (every two weeks). It bounced around a little but didn’t trend upward. I can fully understand your anxiety as my CEA results have certainly given me a lot of anxiety over the years. It was normal for me to bounce around and ...

Re: Still Hunting

Have you had a CA19-9 blood test or do you just have CEA tests? I always had both. For some, CA19-9 is a better marker
