5 years where have they gone - good news!

Haven't been on the board for a while so I don't have a feel for the mood on the board. Since far too often the posts are people struggling, in need of help or bad news, thought I would post some good news. Had my 5 year CT scan a week ago Wednesday. Saw my oncologist yesterday and everything looks ...

A little good news

OK, looks like there has not been very much good news on the board. I have not checked in for a while as life has consumed me lately. My oldest son started college in September. Since he started, he has had his iPhone stolen, totaled his 2005 Subaru Outback and struggle with grades due to this and t...

Re: In shock

I never bought into the stats or even asked about them with any of my doctors. If I did then I should not have done Folfox. The stats said something like by adding the oxy component it increased survival rate by 2% but I had a greater chance of long term neuropathy than what it added to my survival ...

Colonoscopy - good news

I haven't been on the board lately as life has been busy. It is hard to believe it has been 3 years since my last colonoscopy and more than 4 years since my first scope. I got to do the Gatorade/Miralax prep. Thank goodness as the go lightly stuff was horrible. Prep went fine but as always those las...

Re: Bilirubin question

I have had high bilirubin for a long time. There is a disease specific to this which is non treatable and has no major health effects. I would not be worried about this at all. Mine to this day goes all over the place. My last reading a few months ago was the first time in years where it has come ba...

Re: Rolling the Dice

This is an experience you will never forget. My youngest who is a girl is extremely close to me and she became even closer when I went through chemo. To this day at 12 years old she still asks me to tuck her in bed almost every night and give her a kiss good night. Congratulations, you will be a gre...

4 years ago today

It was 4 years ago today that I woke up from my colonoscopy to learn I had colon cancer. I went through the struggles as a stage IIa of deciding whether or not to do chemo. I chose to do it and got through it with relative ease. I have lost 4 friends who I either worked with or help them through the...

Re: Exercise during Chemotherapy

I actually did more exercise on chemo than before I got sick. I had a routine of riding my stationary bike and weight lifting as well as basketball on my off week. My port never really got in the way. I bumped it a couple of times playing basketball. I actually think the exercise helped me get throu...

Re: CT scan schedule

I had one every 6 months up to the time I was 3 years out. I was diagnosed a IIa with no signet cells. This is sometime a preference of the doctor. No reason for your peace of mind you couldn't push her to have one. You mus t be your own advocate if you want something different. I would say there is...

Re: Colon Cancer, stage 2

Hyfija, I don't think it mattered when you have the transfusion. The point is when your hemoglobin is that low then the tumor is significant and could have spread even though the staging is low. My hemoglobin was about the same. Being a IIa was described to me like being a dandelion that has bloomed...

Re: Colon Cancer, stage 2

I did a lot of research on this as I struggled to make this choice. There are 2 main factors and a third I could not find good literature to support. The main 2 factors are the tumor grading and the number of lymph nodes removed. In my case this was a minus and a plus. My tumor was a poorly differen...

Re: Contact sports while port in?

One thing to keep in mind is the location. I rarely took shots or elbow up that high on my chest. I think in all the times I had mine in I can say only once or twice did I ever bump it.

Re: Contact sports while port in?

I'm in my mid fourties and I played basketball in a men's league both during my chemo and after while my port was in. I really never had any issues with it and I did take a couple shots to it. I never had any trouble with my port. Exercise was an important part of helping me get through chemo. I lif...

Three years ago on Christmas Eve I finished my 6 months of Folfox. Last Friday I had my follow up with my Oncologist. My CT scan was clear and my bloodwork was normal. I will be going from CT scans every 6 months to once a year. I had a chance to travel over the Holidays to see my entire family toge...
