One Year Cancer-versery

Hey Y'all, just wanted to post on here and say I made it through the past 12 months. It's been a while ride that for sure. Lots of highs and lows -- Surgery, Chemo, Rad & Chemo, new baby, finished my MBA, many scans, pandemic, diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and lots of other mundane cancer stuff...

Re: Post Treatment Monitering

Thanks! I just finished my first scans post surgery/chemo/radation treatment. They were clear but it looks like I developed diverticulitis. I haven’t really noticed any huge change other than I have to poop way more often and with grater urgency. So far it has been getting better. Radation was espec...

Post Treatment Monitering

Hey yall! So I’ve finished treatment - FOLFOX x6 and xelota & radation for rectal cancer. Yay. But now I’m wondering what I should track now that I’m finished. I’m guessing I’m now at higher risk for some stuff now. My fertility doctor had mentioned that I should track testosterone annually as I...

Re: Biopsy is High Grade Dysplasia but MRI staging is T1N1b

I would be prepared for lots of twist and turns as you start the cancer journey. I’ve come to know that it’s totally normal. I had a similar story of initial staging but we didn’t find the cancer in the lymph nodes until after surgery. The mri didn’t pick them up. Luckily my surgeon decided to grab ...

Re: Normal or should we change doctors ?

I’m a huge proponent of a second opinion. Changing oncologist was one of my best decisions. You need to find a team you can trust and that communicates well with you. Don’t be afraid to spend as much time with the Doctor as you need to understand the decisions being made and all of the options. You ...

Re: Any experience on elevated liver enzymes & FOLFOX

Good to know. I think you’re right. Did they spike after the first round or trend up over the cycles or just one spike on round one?

Any experience on elevated liver enzymes & FOLFOX

I’m on round 4 of FOLFOX and started to see elevated liver enzymes. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering how high your levels got before it conserend your doctors. ALT 171 and trending up AST 68 and tending up Total Bilirubin 1.0 which is pretty normal for me. I generally run high histori...

Re: 5-fu 200ml push - should I keep it?

We ended up dropping the 5-fu push or Bulus as my doctor refers to it. My liver wasn’t doing so hot so they thought it best to pump the breaks. I guess there is some research showing the bulus dosent impact efficacy of the treatment. I haven’t had time to read it but I guess Emory did a study some y...

@zephyr Thanks, that makes sense. I'll have to try the ReliefBand too.

Re: 5-fu 200ml push - should I keep it?

Thanks! You're the second person today to suggest medical marijuana. I'm going to have to check it out. As much as a bad ass I am at dealing with pain, nausea is my kryptonite. Do you know if any of the CBD stuff has the same effect?

5-fu 200ml push - should I keep it?

I'm going into my 3rd round of FOLFOX. Woot half way... My oncologist recommended I drop the 200 mL 5-FU push after my first round because I had pretty bad nausea. I wasn't ready to drop the dosage and we ended-up adding emend. I kind of felt like it was giving up in a way. The emend worked pretty w...

Re: nausea

I can also recommend Emend. I didn't get it my first round and had pretty bad nausea. I'm on my second round now and got it and honestly felt pretty good until day 3. Then I had to take Zofran again. But Zofran and I have a love/hate relationship. I take it, my nausea goes away but then I get consti...

Re: 30 and scared

I hope you’ve gotten your colonoscopy already. But to answer your questions, no it wasn’t super noticeable. I kept thinking maybe I ate something red until I started seeing it on the toilet paper. One thing that my Dr keeps telling me is that rectal cancer is typically very slow growing. I’m not sur...
