Re: ctDNA test pros and cons?

I’ve tried to talk to my oncologist about getting ctDNA testing done but he said it will provide no benefit and they are just looking for $. Results will not change treatment, and will likely just cause more anxiety. Not sure if I agree but if it won’t change treatment, I’m not sure if I want to kno...

Re: How often do you get scanned after treatment?

Since CEA isn't a good marker for you I would insist on CA19-9, AFP and LDH for sure. Like CRguy said PUSH for what you feel you need. Be your own advocate! Let us know and good luck! I’ve never heard of those. Thanks, I’ll read up on them. Another thing I was told by another CRC patient, even if I...

Re: How often do you get scanned after treatment?

My CEA levels have never been high so I'm not even sure if it's a good test for me. I heard about possibly CtDNA tests, like Signatera, which I heard was pretty good with testing for recurrence, but I believe it's still in trials so some oncologists do not recommend it. I was thinking of asking the ...

How often do you get scanned after treatment?

Hey everyone, just curious how often you get scanned. I asked my oncologist what happens after treatment (I go to MSK), and he told me that I well get a CEA check every 6 months and a CT scan yearly. Seems a bit lax to me. His rational was scans causes more anxiety and radiation exposure so he likes...

Re: Normal time frame for followup colonoscopy.

My surgeon is doing a sigmoidoscopy every 3 months and a colonoscopy in the anniversary. I seem to prefer colonoscopies because I’m knocked out... I feel a little violated after the last sigmoidoscopy!

Re: Update - Stage 3b, mid-CAPOX

I am 3C, I was also prescribed 3 months CAPOX. Just finished my second round and on the week break. I’ve had side effects more on the second round but manageable. A little skeptical with the 3 month prescription being 3C but was recommended based on the latest IDEA analysis. Nausea the first few day...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

Hi everyone, just an update. I spoke to my oncologist today and it looks like I’ll be on CAPOX. He said that there are new studies that show 3 months is sufficient and do not need to go on the usual 6 months treatment. He wants me to get started next week. I’ll be doing bloodwork and a chest scan al...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

If you live in the NYC area I highly recommend MSK. I am very happy with the treatment I am receiving there. My oncologist is Dr. Geoffrey Ku. Hope this helps a little. I am happy to answer any other questions you may have. Anne Thanks Anne. MSK just called back today. I was able to get an appointm...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

Thanks Kiwi, that is great advice. Every step of this journey has been an emotional roller coaster... and I’m sure this ride has just begun. I was so fixated in trying to find that magic bullet, which I’m sure a lot of people here went through... but I love your outlook on the diet/exercise thing. R...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

Well, my doctor called me today and gave me the pathology results... 7 out of 25 were found positive... I'm having them send me the report as well. Anyway, not the news I was hoping for :| but I guess now I know and now I can move forward with the next steps. I'm trying to setup an appointment now w...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

I had a meeting w/ my surgeon on Friday. He was hoping the results we be available by then but unfortunately they were not. Dr said it should be available in the next couple days and he will call me once he has them. Good news at least is the physical recovery is going well. Staples were removed and...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

Hi there, I was you in 2009 and I’m still here! I have not given up red meat, I love it and it is very nutritious. I don’t believe it causes cancer but that’s my opinion. Probably best to limit refined sugar and refined grains, vegetable oils (not olive oil) and trans fats if you want to change you...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

Well, some of that is actually a matter of opinion. For a while, anyway, you will need to eat a low residue diet, which means eating the things you supposedly aren't suppose to eat. I found that for quite a long time when I ate salad, beans, and other high-fiber things it went straight through me i...
