Re: Need some thoughts/ideas

Hi Bianca,
I don't have any suggestions for you, just wanted to pop in and say that I'm thinking about you (from one caretaking spouse to another) and wishing the spleen and liver MRI come back clean XXXXX

Re: CT Scan today

Zephyr, it's great to read this! My husband has been on Xeloda/Avastin since January, so far it's still effective (his CEA is stable around 8, it even dropped to 6.8 today). But I expect it'll stop working at some point. His onc seems ok with doing Folfiri/Avastin again if that happens; DH had it pr...

Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

Many thoughts to you and yours, Stu. This is pretty amazing, what your mom did, keeping cancer at bay for so long with minimum treatment! Someone posted somewhere (apologies if it was on this forum and one of you recognizes themselves!) that "unless the proverbial bus hits you, eventually your ...

Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

Thank you for giving us some news, Utahgal. It sounds like treatment was a success, congratulations on making it through rehab! I agree about the difficult summer. For me it started a while back when Rikimaroo left us. We're 6+ years into this fight and sometimes it's better for my mental health not...

Re: FOLFOX rechallengers?

Hi Knitty gurl, My husband has had bone mets (lumbar spine) since the beginning over 6 years ago (that's how he was diagnosed, extreme back pain). He's had a lot of radiation, which unfortunately has resulted in loss of nerve function to his quadriceps, but he's still here, quality of life ok; thing...

Whaaat? I really, really was hopeful for him, with his promising treatment, his careful research. This is very sad indeed

Re: drug shortages - Non-policy solutions

Wow Beach, that's wild - is it based on where one lives, which pharmacy one uses? So far DH has had no problems getting access to Xeloda, and his is $28 monthly (2 weeks of it, since he's on a week on/a week off cycle). This just makes no sense to me; the difference in accessibility and cost within ...

Re: Recurring

PET/CT scan is all clear. Sending to Germany for their opinion on what they see. Waiting game is on again according to CEA and other markers. The scan does give me more time to beat it down as long as possible. DH's onc always says, "we treat tumors, not numbers". Great news on the clear ...

What a hard thing to read. I'm so sorry the trial didn't work for you, Rock. It's been a few weeks, how are you doing now?

Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

Hey JP66, My husband is 2 years post rectum surgery, 20 months post ileo reversal. He had terrible LARS the first year; following the surgeon's suggestion, he would take a LOT of fiber gummies - the equivalent of 30mg/day. Turns out it was a really bad idea for him, he completely stopped taking thos...

Re: Insurance

DH also has BCBS, and is also taking Xeloda on its own, but we haven’t received anything (yet). Different BCBS I guess? Since they wouldn’t cover Lonsurf, hopefully they’ll keep his Xeloda coverage. It seems to be working (last week’s scan showed lymph node decreased in size and everything else stab...

Re: Rage against the (American healthcare) machine

I've thought about contacting Germany to see if they could offer cheaper and see if it would cross the border or not. Worth a try; I have a friend who gets her meds from Canada (not cancer though). I was off with the amount of Xeloda; it will be 3000mg daily (twice 1500), one week on, one week off....
