Re: Thoughts on treatment approach - stage IV recurrent

I've been reading all the posts on this topic and am glad for you that there's a surgical option. I started with liver only mets and was able to have 2 surgeries, but never really got it cleared out (some were in places that were hard to get to.) Now there's lung mets and nodes. Plus my liver is a m...

Re: I have just been diagnosed with colon cancer

I'm at UTSW in Dallas and have had top notch care there with amazing doctors. I've had colon resection, 2 liver surgeries, 2 different chemos, and a clinical trial with immunotherapy there. At the current time I'm clear of cancer (last liver surgery was in June). Right now we're just watching and wa...

Re: CEA and scans

I only did 3 months (6 infusions) of chemo after resection and they did scans right after I finished. Found my liver mets. Then while I was on chemo for mets it was after 4 infusions. After I had liver resection and 6 more infusions of mop-up chemo I had another scan that showed NED (no evidence of ...

Re: Mild ascites and jaundice - cancer spread to liver?

Has your dad had a recent echo of his heart? My wife has a bad tricuspid valve and has one yearly. Cardiologist is tracking for congestive heart failure. He says if she has shortness of breath (resting) or any fluid retention, that could be an indicator. Just wondered if his cardiologist has done a ...

Re: Radiation FAQ

I had SBRT to 2 liver mets in January. The tumor board thought this was a better way to get to the mets that were deep and tricky. They were around 2.5 cm each. The easiest to reach was done in one session that lasted about an hour and a half. The other had a different approach so they did in 3 frac...

Re: Follow-up/monitoring found lesions on liver/spleen after CRC surgery

After liver mets were found, I had a liver biopsy. Not really a big deal - out patient, percutaneous. It didn't really hurt and definitely diagnosed as adenocarcinoma. That's the way to tell. MRI can tell that they are there and the approximate size (based on the slice size) but to definitely diagno...

Re: Folfox protocols

Dave, Thanks for the Plexus suggestion. My wife uses the probiotic, so we're looking at the Nerve pills to see if that's something my onc would allow. And knowing you didn't have many problems with folfox is encouraging. Everyone I've read seemed to really struggle with it. Boxhill, At this point ge...

Scanxiety is real!

I just had my first scan since liver resection and sbrt to get rid of liver mets. MRI. It shouldn't be a big deal. I expect all to be clear! But last time I had a scan - after being staged 3b and completing mop-up chemo - mets were found in my liver! Stage 4! It was like a kick in the gut! So of cou...

Re: New member here - CT scan has me worried

I second the "get a colonoscopy" reply. I didn't get one until I was 63 and they found a big cancer! And I hadn't had any symptoms other than bloodwork that said I was anemic. Also, CT scans are weird. They seem to always show strange things going on in our bodies! Other than liver mets, I...

Folfox protocols

Hi all! I'm fairly new to this forum but have been doing a lot of reading. After recovering from liver resection and sbrt, the plan is to do mop-up chemo - 6 more rounds. I was on folfiri + avastin with very few side effects but onc was not happy with the fact that 6 rounds did not impact my liver m...

Re: Liver ultrasound tomorrow!

My last child born was 24 weeks gestation - 1 lb 14 oz. The survival rate at that time was 10%. She is now 25 and has just finished her masters degree in social work. When we saw 30+ week babies, they looked HUGE! And they were in and out of the NICU so fast. Just like cancer care has changed, so ha...
