Re: Your opinion please

I've just recently reached the same point. Feels weird, doesn't it? Although your DH was IIIA, my understanding is that a IIIA with chemo has less recurrence risk than many stage IIs. So there's nothing in your profile that shouts that more follow-up is needed or justified. Although I've been discha...

Re: Were you worried about losing your job at diagnosis?

Like RR, not in the US so my experience may differ, and also, my ongoing treatment has been less than others but wanted to give my perspective regardless... At diagnosis, I immediately took sick leave the next day to give full attention to my sudden change of situation. I had a high stress and inten...

Re: Worrie about cancer coming back never go away!

I’m so sorry to hear you’re having a rough time, DE. I’ve gone through something similar recently. Although I’m approaching my five year mark and hoping to get the all clear, I’ve been a bag of nerves due to some new and worrying pain in my tail bone… and of course the doctors want to rule out a loc...

Re: 3cm polyp in sigmoid colon

Try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know. The waiting game is horrible but ultimately worrying doesn't help in the end. The fact it's described as a 'polyp', however big, is better news than finding a tumour, because there's a good chance it isn't cancer. Now, about the size. Bigger is more c...

Congratulations DE. I've rarely posted here but I read page after page at diagnosis and during treatment, and you were one of my Stage 2 inspirations.

Re: Fertility after Stage 3 Surgery and Chemo

I realise this is a month old but I don't come here often and wanted to offer my congratulations. It's nice to see that cancer isn't putting a stop to your family plans. I didn't have chemo in the end but still went through the sperm banking before it was decided that I wouldn't, and ultimately had ...

Re: I am so worried.

Thank you again to everyone who replied with your stories and words of encouragement. It has been so informative and helpful for me during this whirlwind. Another question as I lay in bed... Would local lymph node involvement be able to be detected on a CT? Or just distant spread? I don't know enou...

Re: MSI or MSS

I don't post here often, but as a more recent diagnosis than your mother and in the UK, my pathology was tested for MSS/MSI immediately after surgery, although the hospital always referred to it as dMMR/pMMR. This testing may have been related to my stage because it was the determining factor as to ...

Re: Resection Distance / Margins - what were yours?

I was just going through my records before my next meeting with the oncologist, and noticed the pathology report listed a distance of 18mm between the edge of the tumour and the closest margin (probably the distal margin since my tumour was sigmoid/rectosigmoid and I had a sigmoid colectomy). We al...

Re: Stage IIA: Chemo or not?

Thank you all for your comments and experiences - I wish I had the time to respond to you all individually. I may add some individual follow-ups later. After my last update here, I told the oncologist that I want to go down the chemo path and am scheduled to start next week. I'm far from confident w...

Re: Stage IIA: Chemo or not?

This is the strategy I/we took- basically if I would have started having major issues with the chemo, I would have just stopped it cold. Originally we were thinking 8 cycles, but after the IDEA trial data came out this summer (about a week before I started), both oncologists, one at a major cancer ...

Re: Stage IIA: Chemo or not?

I'm curious as to why your oncologist did not give you the option of 3 months of chemotherapy. It's my understanding this has become the new protocol for Stage III colon cancer so I don't know why this wouldn't be true for Stage II. I am in the UK, so it's possible it hasn't been adopted here yet. ...

Stage IIA: Chemo or not?

Hi, First time poster but have made regular visits here via search engines since diagnosis. This won't be the first time this question has arisen, but I am currently 6 weeks post-surgery and faced with the decision of whether or not to proceed with Capecitabine (Xeloda) adjuvant chemotherapy for 6 m...
