Re: Found mass at husbands first colonoscopy today

See a "board certified colon rectal surgeon" especially if it is rectal cancer. I was told by my GI doc I had colon cancer. It was the surgeon who told me it was actually rectal cancer. If your DH does indeed have rectal cancer, radiations is the normal protocol prior to surgery. As a gen...

Diltiazem hydrochloride 2% cream or Lidocaine for fissure?

Hi all, Has anyone used Lidocaine or Diltiazem hydrochloride 2% cream for rectal fissure? My mom has been using the Diltiazem hydrochloride 2% cream for about two months now, and she still has that burning pain. So I was thinking if the dr. should prescribe her Lidocaine. Has anyone used this before...

Re: The things people say to cancer patients

Cancer can bring out the best in your friends and the worst. I dropped a friendship with one of my supposedly best friends when I was going through treatment. I realized she was dragging me down. She was not there for me, clueless to what i was going through, and made too many rude comments. Yes, t...

Re: Rectal fissure post reversal

I would encourage her to use the sitz bath which can provide immediate relief sometimes. Also, Calmoseptine is pretty awesome. I also use witch hazel. And most important, I got a bidet attached to my toilet. It’s important to stay on top of things because the wear and tear over time is awful. I had...

Re: Colonoscopy at 25-- Scared

Whoever said the prep was the worst part I would say you’re correct. Lol. My procedure is at 7 tomorrow. I’m looking forward to getting this out of the way, having a big meal, then going to sleep! I hope that your procedure went okay. I opted out for twilight sedation. I wanted to be completely out...

Re: Stage 3 rectal cancer....

My mom had Stage 3 Rectal cancer. The radiation shrunk the tumor so small that there wasn't really anything for the surgeon to get during surgery. There were no lymph's involved thank goodness. The 1st surgery was brutal recovery cause my mom is older. She ended up having a pus filled sac infection....

Re: Newly diagnosed rectum cancer

'm freaking out quite a bit though. Hard to think about anything else, even while working. I pray and hope for the best, but somewhat expect the worse. I can feel the anxiety clawing at me. I know exactly what you are feeling. Although I do not have cancer, I am a caregiver of my mother who was DX ...

Re: 4 more days until reversal for mom..

Good luck with the reversal! I hope this surgery goes much smoothier than the previous one.

Thank you! Shorter surgery and hospital stay. Little different recovery.

Re: My mom is dying

My mom passed away on 4th July.

I'm sorry to hear the loss of your mother. My birthday is on July 4th. Just know that she is in peace now and all the fireworks you see in the sky are your mother's angel dust. Big hugs. Prayers to you and your fam

Re: Colonoscopy at 25-- Scared

Good luck with your colonscopy. The prep is not fun, but what was great for me is that I had a bed side commode toilet and just kept in the living room and just stayed up all night there watching the Bachelorette. Warning, do not drink the prep over your laptop keyboard as it killed mine. I was so b...

Rectal fissure post reversal

Hi all, Tomorow marks my mother's 3-week recovery from ileostomy reversal. She was doing okay up until last week when she developed a horrible excruciating pain in her rectum. She said her pain level was a 9 and explained it to be like "Ice picks" while going to the bathroom. So she finall...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

It's been a lot of 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 and sometimes 1, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2. I hop in the shower after every couple of rounds to clean up areas that I can't get with toilet paper. Hi mike, Sounds a like what my mama is going through. She had to stop Metamucil and take Immodium for Diarrea. I got he...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Just give yourself time to see where you are at in the next few months and what will work for you. The first thing I'm sure your surgeon will recommend is some type of fiber like Metamucil. My mother is almost two weeks post op from reversal. She stopped the Metamucil yesterday due to soreness down...

Re: 15 Months Post LAR - fluid and 2 lung nodules

A coworker's wife was scheduled to have a biopsy to look at a lung nodule that showed up and they were worried that it was cancer. Her husband remembered that she had had pneumonia (or some other infection) in the past year and one of the doctors thought that that might be the cause. So they waited...

Re: A month after takedown/ reversal-a few questions

I did reach a point over the last week where I had enough so am now trying a daily enema, which has really made a difference. I do it in the morning and it allows me to go the full day without any movements, etc. Now and then I have a little bit here and there, but very tolerable and the procedure ...
