A glimpe at a "normal" life, an amazing day!

Postby jmarie » Sun Jul 26, 2009 9:07 pm

Today I took my baby girl to the pool for the first time with my sister-in-law and nephews. For the first time in 8 months I went all day without thinking of cancer. I talked to other mothers about our babies. No one asked how I was feeling or about my cancer. We just enjoyed the sun, splashed around with my nephews. What an amazing day! I didn't think of it until I checked my email just now. It is an amazing feeling to have been so relaxed and carefree. I pray this is the first of many more great days to come, Thank you Lord!!!

This horrid disease really makes you appreciate the small things in life. Your story brightened my day, and may you continue to experience many more of these good times!

Thanks jmarie. My situation is different from most people here, in that my cancer was caught very early and I was cured surgically, with no subsquent chemo or any such treatment that so many here have had to endure. However, most days I still think about cancer, what it's done to my family and what it tried to do to me.

What I love to think about most though, is that nearly two years after my cure, at age 53, I became a first-time father! My Jimmy is such a sweetheart and not a day goes by that I don't cherish the gift I've been given. Your story helped me remember how blessed I am. Thank you!

Having a baby in the middle of this can be a bit overwhelming at times. But it also has shown me how precious life is and given me reason to get up everyday with a smile. I can't imagine doing this without her.

I feel the same way. Too bad we live on opposite sides of the state. (We live in Palm Harbor.) Our library has Mother Goose rhymes every Tuesday. I'm not sure who has more fun, me or Jimmy! You would enjoy it.

Your great day, gave me great hope! Thanks for posting. My husband just came home and was saying he hopes our life can get back to normal some day and he doesn't think it will. I will have him read your post. Keep having those days!!!

I don't know if life will ever get back to our old "normal" but I pray we find a new normal that doesn't center around cancer, medications and dr appts. I am afraid of forgeting everything this crappy disease has taught me. Before this me and hubby were working 50 hrs a week, eating liker crap, not being very involved w/ family. Now I have a new perspective on life and hope to carry on with it.

I'm glad you had such a wonderful day. I pray that you will have many more. Remember how great it is and each day, tell the cancer, that today you are going to find joy. Having that darling baby, you don't have far to look.
