Colonoscopy Prep day for me, again

Postby sun-sparkled waves » Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:00 pm

Hi fellow CC members. Tomorrow is my colonoscopy day so guess what I'm doing today. I'm trying Pico Salax, now that Fleet Phos. Soda is pulled. This will be my 14th colonoscopy, I think.

I just need a little coaxing to get the first dose of Pico Salax down, so I thought I come here and do it with you people.

OK, here I go.........almost down......Wow, it's not too bad compared with that vile Fleet Ph Soda, after taste a little weird, drink water, more water....

Great, next dose in 6 to 8 hours, in the mean time drink, drink, drink, at least 500 ml an hour. Apple juice and Ginger Ale chilling in the fridge, jello for when I get hungry.
Thanks for being here, it's easier to do it with people who understand.

Never heard of Pico Salax, but preps do suck. Did mine on the 17 of Feb (miralax & doculax) and my Hubby is doing MoviPrep on the 29th of this month.
I watched a lot of movies and the first 3 seasons of House MD.
Good Luck!

Before my surgery and I was tied to the toilet with Fleet Soda, I would play with my husband's game boy (the first Nintendo one that came out the the late 1980's). I love Tretris.

14 - wow, that's a lot of scopes! But the GREAT news is, you've been around for 14 scopes! Wishing you many more to come! :-)

When I used to live in Phoenix, people from other places I would talk to would say "yeah, but you live there, so you're used to the heat" - um, no, you never get used to 115 degree days for weeks at a time (and I know several of the members here live there, so you know what I'm talking about!). I'm guessing scopes are the same - you never "get used to" the prep.

OK, 2nd dose. Your right, it's hard to get used to the prep. But I must say again, Pico Salax is not vile tasting. Here goes....chug-a-lug....chug-a-lug....ahhhh...Ginger Ale chaser and it's down.

I wish I'd known about this prep before. It's the only one children can take. The receptionist at my GI's office says it doesn't clean you out as well as Fleet PH Soda or Golightly, so I went on a low residue diet for 2 days before today.

I was worried about my kidney function, my GFR has dropped, but it's not in the danger zone, though my kidney function is normal for a 70 yr old, I'm 48. So no more Ibuprofen, or contrast or certain nephrotoxic antibiotics.

Thanks for being here. I'm not a substance abuser, but I do look forward to the laa laa land drugs I'll be getting tomorrow. 8)

It went well, my GI took 2 specs for biopsy, he said they were nothing, OK. The guy sitting next to me commented on Pico Salax, saying it was so palatable that he could have mixed some scotch in with it. Throat still sore from gastro scope, (got to check stomach every now and then with Lynch). Feeling a bit out of it today, like I'm still drugged.

Yes, I have been NED since 1994, but still feel like I am walking on thin ice. Being able to keep my immune system as healthy as possible gives me a feeling of some control over my destiny. For that I am very thankful.

My 3rd colonoscopy since diagnosis (Stage IIb) is Thursday afternoon. I get to start my prep today though as during my battle I had a temporary ilestomy which was reversed last March. Unfortunately, I have developed a hernia at the site and it is pushing against the colon causing it to narrow down. They have me taking Magnisium Citrate, one bottle tonight along with a large does of Miralax, another bottle in the morning with miralax, another bottle at noon tomorrow again with miralax followed by another one at bedtime with miralax. If I'm not clean by then, I get to do one more early Thursday morning followed by two enemas about 30 minutes apart before I report at 2:15pm for my 3pm exam. Not looking forward to but they say it is a must do test and I must be clean as a whistle for it. Liquid diet started at noon today!

I'm in the middle of MoviPrep for tomorrow's colonoscopy...OMG, I'd forgotten how foul this stuff was. I don't know if I'm going to be able to get through the second liter...hopefully I'll be clear before I finish it all! UGH.

Don't mind the low residue diet, can put up with prep liquids, its the Nil by Mouth for 3 hours before the appointment that riled me the last time. Appointment time 12.30 pm. Nothing to drink from 9.30 am. And then just sat and sat and sat. Chrissie swears that she thought I was going to have a stroke or at least assault someone. Patience is not one of my virtues. Eventually led to theatre at 3.30 pm. And this was not in a public hospital. It was One of the best private hospitals in town, and the job was being done by my colorectal surgeon. And its colonoscopy time again in June. Will I ever survive this one.
