Hi new here - CRC Stage IIIb

Postby Merci » Sat Nov 14, 2020 7:07 am

I read a lot of stories here. My story started 6 months ago. I was diagnosed with a colon tumor. In stage 3b. I have to admit it was a big shock. At the age of 34, I felt immortal. And suddenly I hear a diagnosis .. Colon cancer. There has never been any cancer in the family. I have two beautiful children. Boy 4 years and born baby girl 2 months. I have to fight for them and try to win my fight. Reading the stories here on the forum gave me the courage to fight. Thanks to you. I'm not English speaking. I apologize for any mistakes in my English.

Hi & welcome, sorry for the reason you are here. Your English is perfect.

I am a 16 yr survivor from stage 3C. Know that you can beat this. Is there a reason they are doing the PET scan now verse 6 months ago when you were 1st diagnosed? Am I correct to assume that you have finished treatment?

Again welcome,

Lee

I was in the best shape of my life when I got my diagnosis. I still sometimes can't believe it happened. Keep your head up and keep fighting. You'll get a lot of support here.

Your English skills are superb.
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

Hi and thank you Lee.
It's beautiful to hear about your story. It gives a person more energy. Yes, I have the last round of chemotherapy on December 4th. My doctor wants to do a PET CT scan to see if there are any metastases.

Hi. Thank you for the kind words. I still can't believe it either. It's a big shock when you hear your diagnosis at the age of 34. I'll be fighting. A great wife and two beautiful children give me energy.

Then, do chemoradiation/trial drug, take a month off, then do folfox chemotherapy.

This combination melted away a 6cm tumor although I am not out of the woods yet (possible tumor deposits).

You want Total Neoadjuvant Therapy

Thank you for your message. NY is very far from my country. I am from the Czech Republic which is in Europe. I have the last round of chemotherapy in December. Oxaliplatin + Xeloda (Capecitabine) 8 rounds.

Stay strong, mr Merci. I was diagnosed with stage 3 too, a month later then you, so i know how just how terrible it feels. Was even younger than you also. But i believe we will get through this, together.

Hi Henny

I'm so sorry you're going through a disease like me. You're really young. I hold my fists to handle everything and stay strong. I believe we can handle it well. Can I ask about your treatment?
The Czech Republic is beautiful. When you were here for the fourth time. Let me know :)

Take care of yourself.

My treatment is pretty much the same as your. Surgery, then 8 cycles of CAPOX/XELOX. On 6th cycle now, and it will probably be my last one with oxali due to side effects. I also take some additional supplements i learned from this forum, psk, aspirin, vit d3 and curcumin.

I am glad that things are going well so far.

Regarding getting into trials, if you are NED you will probably not qualify. One has to have measurable cancer for most of them. (I was also NED after surgery, and fell into the same category, that some people joking call Not Enough Disease. :) )

Best of all would be for you to remain NED after your adjuvant chemo, and just be able to go forward with regular scans. It happens to plenty of Stage III cases. :)

Good luck with your PET scan. Let us know what happens.
